Classic Horror Films in the Reel News
Psycho
The 1960 version, starring Anthony Hopkins and Janet Leigh. After stealing money from her office, Marion Crane (Leigh) meets Norman Bates, amateur taxidermist and the manager of a run-down roadside motel. Bates suffers under the domination of his "mother," who savagely disapproves of fast women. Generally considered the precursor of the horror genre, Psycho is an unmitigated masterpiece.
The Evil Dead Series
We insist you watch all three: Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2 -Dead by Dawn, and Army of Darkness all star the wisecracking, Bruce Campbell. This trio of cult classics is more fun than fright -just a wild, slapstick, gorefest filled with demons.
Halloween
This 1978 film ushered in the modern age of horror. Called "the most successful independent motion picture of all time," this low-budget film started the career of Jamie Lee Curtis. Curtis portrays a babysitter who tries to fend off the deadly Michael Myers, a mental institution escapee who killed his sister on Halloween fifteen years earlier.
Friday the 13th (we have a Friday the 13th this month)
Featuring a-young Kevin Bacon, this 1980 film is the first of eight in the "Jason" series. Despite repeated warnings to stay away, a group of fun-loving but none-too-bright teenagers set out to reopen Camp Crystal Lake. The eerie camp closed 20 years earlier after a series of bizarre and unexplained deaths. Now someone is lurking in the woods, spying on the happy campers, and plotting a gory, grisly revenge on those who would disturb the camp's slumber.
