A concert at the Eagles banquet hall will have a slightly different flavor on Saturday. The hall — generally occupied by line dancing, country or country rock concerts — will host Tony Spinner and Friends, a classic rock group with a set list that includes songs more along the lines of Lynyrd Skynyrd or Ted Nugent.
Promoter George Reutzel said it's nothing heavy or speed metal, "It's more like the rock of the '70s and '80s and blues."
Reutzel, who recently started GWR Promotions, has been the person who handles talent at the Eagles Club, which brings in bands on Friday and Saturday nights for members only. The Eagles Club also holds concerts and dances for the community in its banquet hall to raise money for various causes.
"Most of the time the artists we bring in are country artists or country rock," Reutzel said. But he said the different tone in music won't scare anyone away.
"Anybody who really knows music will appreciate the talent that there is in some of the bands," he said.
Spinner's talent started in Cape Girardeau. He was born here and according to his website, played his first gig at the talent show in Jackson.
Reutzel said Spinner has played with Mike Smith and the Runaways and Spider Wolf. For the past decade or so, Spinner has toured around Europe with Toto.
"I've known Tony since he was a kid," Reutzel said. "I knew he was good. I knew he would put on a good show, that's why I wanted to get him back."
Spinner will start at 8 p.m. Saturday night at the Cape Eagles banquet hall. Doors open and drinks start at 7 p.m.
