Milbre Burch told chilling tales Friday night as part the Cape Girardeau Ghost Storytelling on the east lawn of Southeast Missouri State University's River Campus. Birch and Donna Washington were the storytellers of the evening, with each telling for about an hour. Approximately 400 people attended this year as opposed to 1000 last year. (Laura Simon)

Southeast Missourians don't have to wait until the spring for storytelling in Cape Girardeau. The city has again organized a fall event and added a ghostly component: An Evening of Ghost Storytelling. The Convention and Visitors Bureau invited Gayle Ross and Regina Carpenter to share their stories with people on blankets or in lawn chairs from 7 to 9:30 p.m. today. The women will share light stories from 7 to 8 p.m. After a short break, they will enter into more sinister and scary stories until 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $10; children younger than 12 are free. Tickets are available at the visitors bureau or by calling 335-1631.
