Comedian headlines East Perry gala

BRAZEAU, Mo. -- Nationally known comedian David Graham will headline the East Perry County Gala on Oct. 13 at the Brazeau Hall in Brazeau. The event will begin at Hemman Winery, where guests will socialize while awaiting their horse-and-buggy ride to the gala. Throughout dinner, guests will be treated to musical performances by local talent. Graham, a St. Louis comedian who has performed at the Funny Bone and on Comedy Central and "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," will perform after the meal. The gala will end with a dance. Tickets for the gala are $35 per person and are on sale at the Altenburg school. The event will benefit the Education for Altenburg Foundation. Airport open house to be held Sept. 22

The city of Cape Girardeau and the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport will hold an open house and fun day Sept. 22 at the airport. Admission is free. The day will start with a pancake breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m., followed by the open house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. A highlight of the day will be an airplane flour drop. Other events will be airplane and helicopter flights, Discovery Playhouse KidZone, displays of aircraft, military vehicles and firetrucks, sky-diving demonstrations, crop dusting demonstrations, SEMO Modelers RC demonstrations and aircraft simulators. Soprano, pianist to perform at Shuck Hall

"Songs and Art: A Woman's Life from 'Tot' to 'Todt'" will be presented by soprano Lori Shaffer, with pianist Matt Yount, at 1 p.m. Sept. 15 in the Shuck Music Recital Hall at Southeast Missouri State University's River Campus. This recital in song and art, which follows a woman's life from childhood to maidenhood, womanhood and death, uses music from several genres paired with slides of visual art projected throughout the performance. Mystery comedy is next Players offering

"The Smell of the Kill" by Michele Lowe is the next production to be presented by the River City Players. Directed by River City Players veteran Holly Raines, the dinner theater will run Sept. 14, 15, 21 and 22 at Port Cape. The doors will open at 6:30 p.m.; the buffet follows at 7, and the curtain goes up at 8 p.m. For those who only want to see the show, the mystery comedy will be presented Sept. 20, with the doors opening at 6:30 p.m. and the play to begin at 7.
