Theater department opens season Sept. 29

The Southeast Missouri State University Department of Theatre and Dance will open its 2006-2007 season Sept. 29 with its production of the classic comedy "Noises Off." "Noises Off" is the story of a play put on by a bumbling theater troupe. The production will run at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 29 and 30 and Oct. 5 through 7; and at 2 p.m. Oct. 8 at the Rose Theatre. Parks plans fall folk concerts this weekend

Trails of Tears State Park and Bollinger Mill State Historic Site will play host to two fall folk concerts sponsored by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources on Saturday and Sunday. The concerts -- 7 p.m. Saturday at Trail of Tears and 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Bollinger Mill -- will feature Wil Maring and Robert Bowlin. Sundays at Three opens season Sept. 24

The Sundays at Three chamber music series will open its fourth season at 3 p.m. Sept. 24 at Old St. Vincent's Church in Cape Girardeau. The opening program will feature a number of arias from operas and oratorios by Handel as well as classic German and French work, along with a contemporary selection by Vogel titled "The Devil's Songbook." Photography exhibit travels around Cape

The Cape Girardeau Bicentennial Pictorial Photography Contest exhibit will travel to locations throughout Cape Girardeau through the end of the year. The exhibit is on display now through Oct. 4 at the Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce, during November at city hall and during December at the Cape Girardeau Public Library. Third Day takes on new opening acts at SMC

'Hairspray' coming to Paducah Oct. 31

PADUCAH, Ky. -- The Tony Award-winning musical comedy "Hairspray" will appear at Paducah's Carson Center for two performances Oct. 31 and Nov. 2. Missouri Citizens for the Arts hold annual reception

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Missouri Citizens for the Arts will hold its annual meeting and Arts Advocacy Award reception Oct. 25 in Columbia. Missouri Gov. Matt Blunt, State Sen. Chuck Gross and State Rep. Alan Icet will be honored with the 2006 Arts Advocacy Award for their contributions to the arts in Missouri. Dr. Barbara Harbach and Joan Lipkin will be honored with the Fred Laas Memorial Award. Red House fundraiser Sept. 24 at Arena Building

The Red House Interpretive Center will hold its annual fundraiser dinner from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. on Sept. 24 at the A.C. Brase Arena Building in Cape Girardeau. The party will celebrate Cape Girardeau's bicentennial and the end of the Lewis and Clark bicentennial, with music by Manitou and a presentation by Thomas Jefferson impersonator Patrick Lee. Schoenberger to appear at Kaskaskia festival
