Art by Southeast student on display at Anna
ANNA, Ill. -- Art by Leah Ulrich will be on display through October at the Shawnee Community College Anna Center.
Ulrich, a Cape Girardeau native who graduated from Jackson High School, is working toward a bachelor of fine arts degree with an emphasis in painting at Southeast Missouri State University. Several of her paintings have been exhibited in juried shows at the University Museum.
She currently tutors a student in watercolor and is teaching a basic drawing class for adults.
Cape's Wildest Rodeo tonight and SaturdayThird annual Cape's Wildest Rodeo will be presented tonight and Saturday at the Arena Park Fairgrounds in Cape Girardeau.
The nine-event rodeo will benefit the Shriners Children's Hospital in St. Louis. It is sponsored by Circle S Saddle Company and C106 Coyote Country.
Both evenings will begin with "mutton bustin'" and calf scramble events for children at 6 p.m. and the performance at 7 p.m.
There also will be a wild horse race and mechanical bull for adults. Elvis, a 1,600-pound bull gentle enough to ride through a crowd, will be available for pictures. A miniature bull also will be available for children to have their pictures taken on.
A dance will follow the rodeo at 9 both nights.
Seventy-five competitors from Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, Illinois, Tennessee and Kentucky are expected.
Admission is $8 for adults and $4 for children. Children 6 and under will be admitted free. Refreshments will be available.
'The Producers' coming to St. Louis
ST. LOUIS -- Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Sunday for "The Producers: The New Mel Brooks Musical," which will be presented Dec. 10-28 at the Fox Theatre.
The show is based on Brooks' 1968 film of the same name about down and out theatrical producer Max Bialystock and his mousy accountant, Leo Bloom. They hatch a plan to make money off a sure-fire Broadway flop, "Springtime for Hitler."
The production will star Lewis J. Stadlen, who most recently had a lead role on Broadway in Neil Simon's "45 Seconds From Broadway," and Don Stephenson, whose Broadway credits include "Private Lives" and "Titanic."

'Standing Ovation VI' to be presented Sunday"Standing Ovation VI," a benefit concert sponsored by the Southeast Missouri Music Academy, will be presented at 7 p.m. Sunday at Old St. Vincent's Church.
The program will feature university and academy faculty members Marc Fulgham, Dr. Gary Miller, Matt Yount and Patrick Rafferty along with the academy's outstanding student, clarinetist Meredith Toole. Special guests will include the Suzuki Strings of Southeast Missouri.
An excerpt from Benjamin Britten's children's opera "Noye's Fludde" will be presented along with the world premiere of "RANT" for Strings, composed by university faculty member Dr. Robert Fruehwald.
Admission is $5.
Mobile Graceland coming to Metropolis
METROPOLIS, Ill. -- Mobile Graceland, an exhibit of Elvis Presley memorabilia housed in a 53-foot tractor trailer, will be open at Harrah's Metropolis Casino Wednesday and Thursday.
The exhibition is appearing exclusively at Harrah's casinos and FYE stores in its 31-city tour. It contains jewelry, clothing, musical instruments and other Elvis artifacts.
Among them are a telegram Elvis sent to the Beatles, a U.S. Army jacket he gave to the future Priscilla Presley and Elvis' favorite guitar.
Hours are noon to 10 p.m. Wednesday and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday. Timed tickets are available from Harrah's at the entrance to the casino near the exhibit. Admission is free. Anyone under age 21 must be accompanied by an adult.
Violinist Regina Carter at St. Louis club
ST. LOUIS -- Violinist Regina Carter and her quintet will perform Wednesday through Oct. 12 at Jazz at the Bistro.
She has recorded with Aretha Franklin, Patty Labelle, Wynton Marsalis, Mary J. Blige and Lauryn Hill and has released six of her own albums.

Southeast Baroque Trio concert Oct. 15.
St. Louis Symphony violinist Lorraine Glass-Harris will join the Southeast Baroque Trio in a performance Oct. 15 at Old St. Vincent's Church in downtown Cape Girardeau.
Glass-Harris will play Baroque violin in a concert of music by Bach, Telemann, Eccles and Corelli.
Glass-Harris has been a member of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra since 1972 and debuted as a soloist with the orchestra in 1992. She also performs with the ensembles L'Esprit de Musique and Baroque Ensemble 415, both of which she co-founded. She plays a violin made in 1760.
The trio consists of faculty members Paul Thompson of Baroque flute, Dr. Sara Edgerton on Baroque cello and Dr. Gary Miller on harpsichord.
The concert will begin at 8 p.m. Admission is $6 general, $5 for university faculty and staff and $4 for students and seniors.
SONiA to perform at Cape Senior Center
Recording artist SONiA will perform Oct. 16 at the Cape Girardeau Senior Center.
Her appearance is sponsored by the lesbian organization Insisterhood/Equal Footing.
Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Advance tickets are available by calling 651-6220.
River City Players ready 'A Little Murder ...'
"A Little Murder Never Hurt Anybody" will be presented by the River City Players in dinner theater performances. Oct. 25-26 and Nov. 1-2.
The shows will be at the River City Yacht Club, with doors opening at 6 p.m. and an 8 p.m. show start. A special show-only performance is scheduled for Oct. 31, with doors opening at 6 p.m. and a 7 p.m. show start.
The cast includes Natasha Storey Ford, Kate Kruse, Wayne Heiser, Joe Class, Rich Behring and Lloyd Williams. The director is Debie Barnhouse. Randy Barnhouse is the assistant director.

Canadian dancers in 'Romeo and Juliet'
CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Ballet Jorgen of Canada will present "Romeo and Juliet" in a performance Wednesday at SIU's Shryock Auditorium.
The ballet is a sunny interpretation of the tragedy, with the rivalries between the families expressed in mime, dance and fast-moving sword-fights.
The Toronto-based company is the only one in Canada with a repertoire consisting solely of original works.
