An open house to allow new students to meet faculty and staff will be hosted by Southeast Missouri State University's Department of Theatre and Dance at 6 p.m. Monday in the Rust Flexible Theatre on the River Campus. New dance and theater students and students interested in those arts will learn how to audition for Southeast productions and will receive a mentor at the event. Featured at the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri's Saturday Social on Sept. 6 will be art talks by Sparky Campanella and Thomas Smugala. Campanella will speak from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Smugala will follow from 1 to 3 p.m. Campanella, a photographer, will be in Cape Girardeau for the opening of his exhibit, "Sparky Campanella: Horizon," from Sept. 6 to Oct. 26 at the Crisp Museum on the Southeast Missouri State University River Campus. JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Sept. 8 is the deadline for nominating art heroes -- people, organizations and communities -- for the 2015 Missouri Arts Awards, sponsored by the Missouri Arts Council. Nominations are being accepted in these categories: Arts Education, Arts Organization, Creative Community, Individual Artist, Leadership in the Arts and Philanthropy. Mailed nominations must be postmarked by Sept. 8, and online nominations must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. Winners will be announced in November, and awards will be presented Feb. 11 in the Capitol rotunda in Jefferson City.
