Sara Edgerton and Paul Thompson, faculty members at Southeast Missouri State University, will present a recital of music for cello and piano titled "Song Without Words" on Aug. 26 at the River Campus. The concert is part of the Faculty Recital Series and will take place at 3 p.m. in the Shuck Music Recital Hall. The fifth annual John D. Hale Band Barn Party will be held Aug. 24 and 25 at 5H Ranch. The gates will open at 5 p.m. Aug. 24 and music will begin at 6 p.m. Performing will be Reckless Kelly, Powder Mill and Dani Flowers. Promise to Burn will reunite Saturday at The Venue in Cape Girardeau for the second annual Blast from the Past: Promise to Burn Show. The concert will feature Blind Lion. Doors open at 7:30 p.m., and the show starts at 9 p.m.
Southeast SportsCare will present "What Women Really Need to Know About Football" from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Southeast Hospital's HealthPoint Plaza in Cape Girardeau. The free seminar will teach women about the X's and O's of football, the coach's perspective, the official's explanation of penalties and tailgate foods, and will discuss prevention and treatment of injuries and player hydration. "Looking Ahead: Portraits from the Mott-Warsh Collection" will be displayed beginning Aug. 28 in the Crisp Museum at the River Campus. The exhibit will remain on display through Oct. 21. Artists showcased in this exhibition directly and indirectly examine the social, political and cultural nuances of the black face and head in fine art and popular visual culture.
