Arts Council looking for artists

The Arts Council of Southeast Missouri, 32 N. Main St., in Cape Girardeau is looking for artists who wish to participate in the second annual Members Exhibit in September. Any area artist, 18 and older, who is a current, dues-paying member of the council may submit one work of art to be shown at the exhibit. Artwork must be dropped off at the Arts Council by Aug. 23. First-, second- and third-place awards will be selected by Thomas Smugala, editor of 573 Magazine. A people's choice award will be picked by First Friday visitors. Artwork needed for calendar

Area artists are invited to submit artwork for the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri's 2015 calendar. This will be the first calendar project initiated by the council. The calendars will be given to all members of the Arts Council and to corporate sponsors of the project. Any additional calendars will be sold. All area artists, 18 and older, may submit five images by mail to the Arts Council, 32 N. Main St., in Cape Girardeau, or by email to artscouncil@capearts.org. Artwork chosen for the calendar will earn their creators four free copies of the calendar, as well as a free one-year individual membership to the Arts Council. Annual meeting of Arts Council set

The annual meeting of the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri, 32 N. Main St., in Cape Girardeau will be at 6 p.m. during the First Friday reception Sept. 6. It will be in conjunction with the awards ceremony for the second annual Members Exhibit. All council members are invited to attend the meeting, at which a new slate of officers will be elected. Members can also vote for officers via an email that will follow the meeting. At the annual gathering, the annual report for the Arts Council's fiscal year 2013-2014 will be available.

Cateye Glasses Studio, 2117B Broadway in Cape Girardeau will offer a class on creating the Tree of Life Pendant from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday. Instructor for the class will be jeweler Morgan Henley. Cost is $20, which includes instruction, supplies and tools.

Starving Artist Sale at Black Door Gallery

Black Door Gallery is holding a Starving Artist Sale from 5 to 9 p.m. Sept. 5, and possibly from 9 to noon Sept. 6 during the Riverfront Market. Artists are invited to show and sell their artwork.
