Local musician expands audience with help

Local musician Foster McGinty will perform at 9 tonight at Broussard's before playing a date at Arthur Clay's in St. Louis on Saturday. McGinty will try to make a name on the St. Louis scene when he plays Arthur Clay's, which his brother Frank partially owns. Top Branson show coming to Cape Girardeau

The Arena Building will play host to one of Branson's most popular live acts, The Hughes Brothers, on July 15. The five brothers have been performing together in Branson for 26 years and own a theater in the city. The brothers agreed to play in Cape Girardeau to bring their show to the many fans in the area who might not want to buy gas to drive all the way to Branson.

Jars of Clay studio to hold Empty Bowls session

The Jars of Clay Pottery Studio will hold a session to make clay bowls for the Empty Bowls charity drive from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Empty Bowls is a project that seeks to raise money and awareness to fight poverty. For more information, call Pam Duncan at 332-8408.

Sikeston Depot Museum holds strange exhibit

SIKESTON, Mo. -- The Sikeston Depot Museum, 116 W. Malone Ave., Sikeston, will hold "The Art of Underpinnings" exhibit through July and August. The exhibit is made up of 30 bras decorated artistically and creatively, made by members of the Retired Seniors Volunteer Program in Paducah, Ky. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. For more information, call (573) 481-9967.

Red House to be topic on 'Going Public' radio show

The Red House Interpretive Center will be the topic on Sunday's edition of the KRCU radio show "Going Public." Jane Randal Jackson, chairwoman of the Red House board, will be the guest for the 3 p.m. show and will discuss the history of the Red House and upcoming summer events. The program is recorded on the porch of the Red House.

Radio station KRCU hires development director

KRCU, Southeast Public Radio, has hired Amanda Lincoln as the new development director. She was hired June 29. Lincoln is a 2001 graduate of Southeast Missouri State University and has worked for five years with the American Red Cross Southeast Missouri Chapter. She will oversee all station fund-raising activities and work to generate financial support for the station through corporate underwriting and listener contributions.

Grandstand lineup for Illinois State Fair

DuQuoin, Ill. -- This year's musical entertainment for the Illinois State Fair will mix classic and modern country with rock and will once again feature Cape Girardeau's Jerry Ford Orchestra. George Jones will perform Aug. 25; followed by Trapt Aug. 26; ARCA races and gospel music Aug. 27; Dierks Bentley Aug. 30; Neal McCoy Sept. 1; and the Jerry Ford Orchestra on Sept. 4. Munakata art exhibition to open July 14

ST. LOUIS -- The St. Louis Art Museum will open an exhibition by Japanese artist Shiko Munakata on July 14. The exhibition will feature a selection of the artist's woodblock prints and ink drawings from the museum's permanent collection. Munakata is known for innovating the woodlblock print art form. Bill Moyers special running now on WSIU
