Union County Fair announces dates

ANNA, Ill. -- The date has been set for the 125th Union County Fair, to be held this year Aug. 21 through 27 at Anna City Park. The fair will feature horse racing and shows, a pet parade, demolition derby, rodeo, tractor and truck pulls and grandstand entertainment. For more information, visit www.unioncountyfair.net.

Symphony orchestra previews season July 24

The Southeast Missouri Symphony Orchestra will hold its Symphony Preview II concert at 3 p.m. July 24 in the Rose Theatre auditorium and foyer. The featured performance will be Mozart's Flute Quartet in C Major with Paul Thompson, Brandon Christensen, Michelle Suhr, Kyle Miller and Sara Edgerton. The concert is free to the public. Tickets will be on sale for the symphony orchestra's 2005-2006 concert season.

Heartland Pops Chorus to perform in capital

The Heartland Pops Chorus will be performing in Washington, D.C., as part of the Festival of the States, and in Philadelphia as part of Benjamin Franklin's 300th birthday celebration during the weekend of July 4, 2006. Cape La Croix Church to hold benefit concert

Chris Nall will perform in concert at 7 p.m. Thursday at Cape La Croix Church on Lexington Avenue in Cape Girardeau. The concert is free to the public, but Nall will be selling his CDs for a donation to raise money for Nall and his wife to adopt a child from China. The Donnas will rock out Missouri State Fair

SEDALIA, Mo. -- The Missouri State Fair recently announced the punk-pop band The Donnas will open for Hoobastank Aug. 20 at the Missouri State Fair in Sedalia. Tickets are available from Ticketmaster at (800) 796-6776 or from www.mostatefair.com.

Nashville's Picott playing at Underberg House

Cape Girardeau's house concert venue, the Underberg house, will feature Nashville singer-songwriter Rod Picott this Thursday at 7 p.m. Picott will be performing in August when Tunes at Twilight picks up the second part of its season. For reservations, call Larry or Jean Underberg at 334-7692.

Author to visit Depot Museum Tuesday

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Terry Teachout, a film and theater critic for the Wall Street Journal, the New Yorker and other publications, will give a lecture at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Sikeston Depot Museum, 116 W.
