'Deal or No Deal' wants local contestants

METROPOLIS, Ill. -- The popular NBC game show "Deal or No Deal" is seeking contestants from the area. Possible contestants will be asked to make a 30-second pitch for why they should be selected for the show. Tryouts will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 22 at Harrah's in Metropolis. Cape West cuts prices during heat advisories

Cape West 14 Cine has brought back its summer Heat Advisory Days promotion this year, offering moviegoers adult tickets for children's prices when a heat advisory is in effect. The special pricing applies only to movies starting before 6 p.m. any day and does apply to online or advance purchases.

Market House Theatre holds auditions

PADUCAH, Ky. -- The Market House Theatre will hold auditions for the musical "Smoke on the Mountain" at 7 p.m. Tuesday on the theater's main stage. Cape Library to show 'March of Penguins'

The Cape Girardeau Public Library will show the documentary hit "March of the Penguins" at 2 p.m. July 22. Narrated by Morgan Freeman, the film about the mating and parenting habits of penguins became a surprise hit last summer.

Ivas John returns July 21 to Port Cape

In just a few short months, Southern Illinois bluesman Ivas John has made a name for himself in Cape Girardeau. His shows always draw a crowd, and those who see him say he's the real deal. Shryock announces upcoming season

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Shryock Auditorium in Carbondale has announced its upcoming 2006-2007 season. Offerings include a tribute to Frank Sinatra on Oct. 13, the musical "Camelot" on Oct. 20, the Moscow Festival Ballet on Jan. 30 and performances throughout the season by the Southern Illinois Symphony Orchestra. Lesterville festival calls for artists for fund-raiser

LESTERVILLE, Mo. -- The TOCO Music and Peace Festival, happening Sept. 8 and 9 in Lesterville, is seeking artists for its Artist Caravan. The festival is an arts and music event that seeks to raise money for charity, this year for The Center for Women in Transition in the St. Louis area. New exhibition opens July 21 at St. Louis

The show features works from a late 18th- to early 19th-century Kashmir shawl, a Camodian silk wrapper known as a phaa nung and several contemporary textiles.
