Reception for Art for the Health of It

The opening reception for the 2015 exhibit of Art for the Health of It will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Southeast Hospital's meeting room by Elevator C. The annual exhibit, which was juried by Wendy Kurka Rust, will be on display in the corridor between elevators A and C. Awards will be announced at the reception. Travel writer to speak at library

Emmy Award-winning travel writer John Drake Robinson will discuss the extraordinary sights and people of Missouri at 2 p.m. Monday in the Oscar Hirsch Room of the Cape Girardeau Public Library, 711 N. Clark Ave. Robinson is the author of "A Road Trip into America's Hidden Heart: Traveling the Back Roads, Backwoods and Back Yards" and "Coastal Missouri Driving on the Edge of the Wild."

Skateboard art to be demonstrated

Local artist Dennis Wilson will teach skateboarding enthusiasts how to personalize their skateboard decks using stencils and spray paint. His demonstration will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Youth Progress Room of the Cape Girardeau Public Library, 211 N. Clark Ave. The program is limited to 20 participants, ages 12 to 18. Arts Council sponsors concert

The Arts Council of Southeast Missouri will sponsor the Cape Girardeau Municipal Band's concert from 7 to 8:30 p.m. July 8 at the Capaha Park band shell. In addition to live music, there will be artist displays, outdoor painting and free bottled water.

Rare Book Room on display

The Rare Book Room at Kent Library on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University will be open for a guided tour from noon to 1 p.m. on July 10. Joni Hand and Roxann Dunn will lead a group of no more than 15 on the tour. To reserve a spot, call 334-9233.

Pewter demonstrations to be held at Arts Council

Tom and Patricia Hooper, owners of ASL Pewter in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri, will demonstrate how pewter goods are created from molds from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 18 at the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri, 32 N. Main St. in Cape Girardeau.
