To allow revelers the opportunity to celebrate Independence Day and view the fireworks over the Mississippi River, the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri will reschedule its usual First Friday with the Arts opening reception. The reception will be from 5 to 9 p.m. July 11 at the Arts Council, 32 N. Main St., in Cape Girardeau.
The Cape Girardeau Roller Girls will take on the visiting Clarksvillain Roller Girls of Clarksville, Tennessee, at the A.C. Brase Arena Building Saturday night. Doors will open at 5 p.m., and the bout will begin at 6. Immediately after the main event, a coed scrimmage bout will be held. Supporting the local roller derby team supports the Arts Council of Missouri, as a portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to the council. Tickets may be purchased at P Mac Music and the Arts Council and through Brown Bag Tickets.
The opening reception for the Art for the Health of It exhibit at Southeast Hospital will be at 2 p.m. June 29. The location of the exhibit has been changed. When walking into the hospital lobby, the exhibit will be in the corridor to the side of the steps leading to Lacey's on the Hill between elevators A and C. The move will allow easier access for patients, employees and visitors. The artwork in this exhibit will be on display through Aug. 28.
Leslie Dysinger will entertain at Tunes at Twilight tonight at the gazebo in Common Pleas Courthouse Park. The free, one-hour concert begins at 7 p.m. Bring a lawn chair or a picnic blanket and some snacks and enjoy this award-winning outdoor concert presented by Old Town Cape.
"Watercolor Workshop" for adults will be presented by The Artist Studio, 38 N. Main St., in Cape Girardeau on Tuesday and Wednesday and July 1-2 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. No experience is needed. For more information, go to Judy Barks-Westrich's Facebook page on Facebook.
Openings are available in Southeast Missouri State University's Art Academy Summer Workshops. The workshops provide learning experiences in a variety of media for ages 6 and older. Dr. Tim Morgan, a handwriting expert and forensic document examiner, will speak on "The Handwriting of Psychopaths and Serial Killers" in the Oscar Hirsch Room of the Cape Girardeau Public Library, 711 N.
