Giving blood gets you backstage passes

All donors who show up to donate blood at a "Music Saves Lives" blood drive in the area this month will receive a VIP Access Pass to The Vans Warped Tour in Kansas City, Mo., or St. Louis in early July. In addition, each donor will receive a music download card and be eligible to win an autographed Tony Hawk skateboard. The VIP Pass does not include concert admission, which must be purchased, but will allow donors access to special VIP areas, including backstage. Check the Health page of the Southeast Missourian newspaper each Tuesday for local blood drives, call 800-GIVE-LIFE or go online at www.americanredcrossblood.org.

Jackson has free movie, concerts in the park

The Jackson City Park will host two Rock in the Rock Garden musical performances and a Movie in the Park. The Rock in the Rock Garden will feature Bill Booth on Friday and Shades of Blue on July 18. Both shows are from 7 to 9 p.m. and are free to the public. Attendees should bring a chair and refreshments. The second annual Movie in the Park is scheduled for 8 p.m. Saturdy. "The Rookie" will be shown. Bring your own chair, concessions will be sold. For more information call Jackson Parks & Recreation, 204-8848.

Trip to see 'High School Musical' planned

Residents can sign up to see "High School Musical" at The Muny in St. Louis. The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department planned a trip for June 30. Cost of the trip is $56 per person for Terrace A, and $48 per person for Terrace B. Price includes a charter bus ride to and from The Muny. The bus will depart from the Osage Community Centre at 5 p.m. June 30. Concessions are available at The Muny, or you may bring a small cooler and eat on the bus. No glass containers will be allowed on the bus. To sign up or for more information, call the Parks & Recreation Department at 335-5421 or Amy Roth at 334-2859.
