The Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center will host a Meet the Artist event from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the nature center, 2289 County Park Drive in Cape Girardeau. Attendees can visit with local artist Marty Riley as she works in pastels, acrylic and possibly tissue paper to create landscapes, plants and wildlife from Southeast Missouri conservation areas and state parks. The event is free to the public.
The Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce will present Rockin' the Park, a concert from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Jackson City Park band shell on East Independence Street in Jackson. Superjam will be the headlining band, with Smokey and the Bandit starting the show. Tickets for the event are $10, and children 10 and younger get in free. Tickets may be purchased from chamber of commerce members. Food and a cash bar will be available. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. The gates will open at 5 p.m.
Brent Johnson and the Call Up will play a concert from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Underberg house, 1122 Patricia St. in Cape Girardeau. Johnson is a former lead guitar player for blues legend Bryan Lee. The concert will be a high-energy rock and blues show. A donation of $10, all of which will go to the artist, is recommended. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own beverages. For reservations, call (573) 270-1009.
As part of the River Campus Summer Arts Festival, "Honk Jr." will have two free showings at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. June 18 in the Bedell Performance Hall, 518 S. Fountain St. in Cape Girardeau. Two other showings will be presented at 7:30 p.m. June 17 and 2 p.m. June 19. Tickets for these showings will cost $10 per person. The show is based on "The Ugly Duckling" children's story.
"Always ... Patsy Cline" will be performed at 7:30 p.m. June 16, 21, 24, 26 and 29 and at 2 p.m. June 19 in the Rust Flexible Theatre at the River Campus. Tickets for the show are $20 per person.
"Steel Magnolias" will be performed at 7:30 p.m. June 17, 18, 22, 23 and 28 and at 2 p.m. June 26 in the Rust Flexible Theatre.
Tickets for these performances also will cost $20 per person.
