Theater students at Southeast Missouri State University will present a series of one-act plays as the culmination of their Directing II projects May 12 through 14 in the Rust Flexible Theatre at Southeast's River Campus. The three-evening series at 7:30 p.m. will consist of three one-act plays presented each evening, each of which will run 20 to 40 minutes. The Directing II One Acts performances are the culmination of two semesters of study for Southeast Theatre and Dance directing students, which began with Directing I. Directing II One-Acts are usually longer and more in-depth, with advanced students exploring various theatrical styles and alternative approaches to directing. Student directors select their pieces from a variety of material. They audition actors, rehearse scenes and present their work to the public. Works presented may contain adult content. The Directing II performances are free and open to the public.
Southeast Missouri State University students will perform pieces in the final dance concert of the school year at the Theatre and Dance Second Stage Series event, "Last Chance to Dance," at 7:30 p.m. May 11 through 12 in the Bedell Performance Hall at Southeast's River Campus. Performances will include a variety of styles, from hip-hop to contemporary to ballet and jazz. Students can choreograph solos, duets, trios or large groups. Students from all majors are welcome to perform, although the event is designed for theater and dance majors. The event is free to the public. Some performances may contain adult content.
