Acting Out! will hold auditions for "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)" from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday at On Cue Performing Arts Studio, 20 N. Main St. in Cape Girardeau. Male and female actors ages 15 and older are requested. A prepared monologue, resume and headshot are encouraged but not required.
The inaugural Shawnee Hills Pottery Trail event will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday along a route through Jackson and Union counties in Southern Illinois. The self-driving or biking trail will have six stops along the way. The event is free and will give attendees the opportunity to meet and talk with potters, see their studios and view demonstrations. The annual Department of Theatre and Dance Senior Showcase will be at 7:30 p.m. May 6 and 7 in the Rust Flexible Theatre at the River Campus, 518 S. Fountain St. in Cape Girardeau. The showcase will highlight performances from graduating seniors who have completed their Bachelor of Fine Arts or Bachelor of Arts with a performance emphasis. The showcase is open to the public, and reservations may be made with a donation to the theater and dance department by calling (573) 651-2149.
Stone Soup Shakespeare will kick off its "The Comedy of Errors" tour at 6 p.m. May 7 at the Cape Girardeau Public Library, 711 N. Clark Ave. in Cape Girardeau. Performances are free.
The Southeast Missouri State University Theatre and Dance Second Stage Series concludes with "Last Chance to Dance," which will be performed at 7:30 p.m. May 8 and 9 in the Bedell Performance Hall at the River Campus, 518 S. Fountain St. in Cape Girardeau. The dance performance will be the finale of the year and will feature a variety of dance styles, including jazz and tap, contemporary, hip-hop and ballet. The event is free, and some performances may include adult content.
Theater students from Southeast Missouri State University will present a series of one-act plays at 7:30 p.m. May 11 and 12 in the Kenneth and Jeanine Dobbins River Campus Center Directing Studio at the River Campus, 518 S. Fountain St. in Cape Girardeau. Both nights will include three 30-minute, one-act plays, all of which are the culmination of two semesters of study for students in Directing I and II at the River Campus. The event is free, and performances may contain adult content.
The Art for the Health of It exhibition will be on display from June 26 to Aug. 24 at SoutheastHEALTH, 1701 Lacey St. in Cape Girardeau. Entries for the exhibit can be entered until May 13 and will be considered by juror Linda Buis.
