Early music ensemble performs May 7
The newly formed early ensemble Musickes Cordes will perform in the last of the Sunday at Three chamber music series 3 p.m. May 7 at Old St. Vincent's. Soprano Christine Johnson, Baroque violinists Celina Boldrey-Casado and Brandon Christensen, lutenist Jeff Noonan and gambist Phil Spray will perform a program of sonatas and cantatas by early Baroque Italian composers. On May 6 and 7 the Jackson Art Department will hold its annual Jackson All District Art Exhibit, titled "Art Expressions 2006." The event will take place at the Jackson High School multipurpose building from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 6 and 1 to 3 p.m. May 7. Southeast Missouri State University will open its annual Senior BFA Show displaying the work of senior art students today with a reception from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Southeast Missouri Regional Museum. The exhibition will remain in the museum through May 14. For more information, call 651-2260.
Notre Dame Regional High School's concert choir performance with international pianist Jack Gibbons will be available on DVD. Limited copies of the DVD, signed by Gibbons, are available from any concert choir member or by calling Sandy Tyson at 335-6772.

The Red House Interpretive Center will hold its first meeting of the Red House Kids' Club at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Red House site. At the first meeting, children will learn about Lewis and Clark. CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Southern Illinois University Carbondale theater department will close its 2005-2006 season starting tonight with its production of the musical "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum." Performances are place today and Saturday at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday at 2 p.m.; and May 5 and 6 at 7:30 p.m. A lecture will precede the Sunday performance at 1:30 p.m. All shows take place at the McLeod Theater. ST. LOUIS -- A free exhibition of contemporary art titled "Remote Viewing (Invented Worlds in Recent Painting and Drawing)" will open June 18 at the St. Louis Art Museum in Forest Park. "Remote Viewing" features the work of eight contemporary artists explores modern society's information overload by exploring "invented worlds" between abstraction and representation. The exhibition comes from New York's Whitney Museum of American Art. The exhibition will stay on display through Aug. 27. Call the museum at (314) 655-5493 for more information.
