Twelve Missouri wineries will be giving out samples of their wines at the 11th annual Community Benefit Wine Festival. The festival will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Bavarian Halle in Jackson. Food will be provided by 35 local restaurants and music will be provided by Pat Schwent and Saxy Jazz. The Jackson City Park will host "2012 Rock in Rock Garden," a series of five Friday-night concerts set to take place in June. The following musicians are scheduled to perform: Dan Bliss on June 1, Sons of the Middle Class on June 8, Lojo Russo on June 15, Amelia White on June 22 and Doug and Mark Rees on June 29. The Southeast Missouri State University Department of Theatre and Dance will perform "Reckless" at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through April 28 and at 2 p.m. April 29 in the Rust Flexible Theatre at the River Campus. The performance of this dark comedy is student directed by Lindsay Prawitz of St. Joseph, Mo., and is part of the Theatre and Dance Second Stage Series. A showing of the documentary "Give A Damn?" will take place at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Rose Theatre at Southeast Missouri State University. There will also be a question-and-answer session with the three filmmakers, Dan Parris, Rob Lehr and David Peterka. The film follows the three friends as they travel across the U.S., Africa and Europe, living off $1.25 a day and documenting their experiences.
The Theatre and Dance Society will host "Taste of Cape," a hop among nine local businesses, from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday to benefit Southeast Missouri State University's Department of Theatre and Dance. The businesses in the hop are Cafe Soupe, My Daddy's Cheesecake, the Venue, PrimoVino, The Bel Air Grill, Jimmy John's, Andy's Frozen Custard, Imo's Pizza and Saffron Bistro. Each will serve its signature item, and participants can choose to go to any or all of the restaurants during the allotted time. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased before April 24 by calling 651-2149 or the night of the event at any of the participating restaurants.
