New theater company to hold auditions

Acting Out!, a newly-organized theater company, will hold auditions at 3 p.m. April 20 for its first production, "Romeo and Juliet." Auditions will consist of a cold reading from the script and will be held at Fruitland Community Church. Actors are asked to bring a calendar with conflicts from April 20 through June 22. Parts will be available for ages 13 and up. A limited number of children will be included in the crowd scenes. Contact director Kasey Cox at kaseyacox@gmail.com for more details on auditions. For those unable to attend the scheduled auditions, an alternative time may be made. "Romeo and Juliet" will be performed at the band shell in Jackson City Park on June 21 and 22.

Celebrate National Library Week

The week of April 14 to 20, the Cape Girardeau Public Library will join libraries in schools, campuses and communities nationwide to celebrate National Library Week. Cape Girardeau Public Library will offer library card holders the opportunity to pay for fines with nonperishable food items. First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association and libraries across the country each April. Ray's raises money for Miracle Network

"Rockin' 4 Miracles," a night of fun and music, will be held April 20 at Ray's Plaza Conference Center, 3257 William St., in Cape Girardeau. The doors will open at 7 p.m., and the band will start rockin' at 7:30 p.m. Providing music for the event will be Mike Smith and the Runaways, nine-time Grammy Award winner and former Runaways member Larry Seyer, and Nashville recording artist Steve Hornbeak. Also performing will be Mary Bauer. Patrons are asked to donate $15, and all proceeds will go to Children's Miracle Network hospitals. Advance tickets may be purchased by calling 573-450-4889.

Arts Council launches Kickstarter campaign

The Arts Council of Southeast Missouri has launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise $2,500 for its first artist-in-residence program at the Alternative Education Center in Cape Girardeau. The campaign began April 5 and will conclude May 3. The Arts Council of Southeast Missouri must meet its goal of $2,500 by May 3 or all pledges will be nullified. The Arts Council aims to raise $2,500 to aid in matching a $10,000 grant received from The National Endowment for the Arts for a program formulated by a partnership between the Alternative Education Center and the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri. As part of the artist-in-residency program, three artists from various disciplines will work with students of the center. For more information, go to kck.st/10BuDKx.

Crisp Museum offering drawing class

The Crisp Museum at Southeast Missouri State University's River Campus will host a drawing class, led by Open Window Studio artist Kelly Hughes, from 9:30 a.m. to noon Tuesdays, April 16 to May 7. The class is for adults at any drawing skill level. Hughes will introduce specific drawing exercises that will assist in capturing ideas on paper. Due to limited seating, preregistration is required. To register and acquire the class supply list, contact the museum at 651-2260.
