Area arts council to tour Botanical Garden

The Arts Council of Southeast Missouri is organizing a June 13 trip to the Missouri Botanical Garden to view "Glass in the Garden," a new exhibition by artist Dale Chihuly, as well as Tower Grove Park and the Sophia M. Author to discuss life of George Drouillard Tuesday

The author of a novel about George Drouillard, Louis Lorimier's nephew and Corps of Discovery expedition member, is coming to Cape Girardeau. James Alexander Thom and his wife Dark Rain will be in town Tuesday for a discussion on Thom's novel "Sign-Talker." The discussion will be at 7 p.m. at the Red House Interpretive Center. Notre Dame to present 'Damn Yankees'

Southeast Percussion Ensemble to play April 11

The Southeast Missouri State University Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of new faculty member Shane Mizicko, will perform at 8 p.m. April 11 in Academic Auditorium on the Southeast campus. The concert will feature a marimba solo by Mizicko and will feature as guests the Central Junior High Percussion Ensemble and Central Junior High's "Shere Khan" ensemble. Grauel Lecture planned Sunday at Southeast

The annual H.O. Grauel Lecture will take place at 2 p.m. unday in Glenn Auditorium on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University. The featured speaker is Cassie Hermansson, professor of English literature at Pittsburgh State University and a scholar specializing in the mythology of Bluebeard. Author of 'Delmo' book to visit Sikeston Depot

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Author Mildred Smith, author of "Delmo: Threshold of Freedom," will speak at the Sikeston Depot at 7 p.m. Tuesday. "Delmo" recounts the story of the Delmo Homes, a series of Bootheel communities created by former sharecroppers freed from their obligations in the 1930s and 1940s. Smith was a staff nutritionist with the Delmo Homes. Following the lecture will be a showing of the Emmy Award-winning documentary "O Freedom After Awhile," also about the Delmo Homes. Lewis and Clark workshop planned in Jefferson City

JEFFERSON CITY -- A workshop scheduled for April 26 to 27 in Jefferson City will prepare and coordinate final events to celebrate the bicentennial of the Lewis and Clark expedition for this year and beyond. The workshop, sponsored by the Missouri Lewis and Clark Bicentennial Commission and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, will bring together communities, organizations and individuals as well as state and federal agencies that have been involved in the bicentennial celebration.
