Mixing 10 will hold a two-day fundraiser to benefit the Gateway Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. The "Rock out for MS Weekend" features four bands over two days. Horizn, Us Instead and Human Zoo will play today and Eight O'Five and Human Zoo will play Saturday. There's no cover, but the bar will donate 10 percent of the profits from the weekend to the charity. It has also promised to donate $1 for every specialty drink or specialty martini ordered. People can buy raffle tickets to win T-shirts, gym memberships and more. The music starts at 8 p.m. today and Saturday.
MOUNDS, Ill. -- A DVD highlighting the historic cemeteries of Southern Illinois has been produced by the Southernmost Illinois Delta Empowerment Zone. "Earth, Stone and Memories: Historic Cemeteries and What They Tell Us" was written and directed by Richard Kuenneke of Carbondale, Ill. The video includes a 40-minute documentary on the development of 19th-century burial grounds and the types of headstones used. It also has special features on the abandoned cemetery law in Illinois, archaeologist Michael J. McNerney's study of necked-discoid grave markers, and Cairo, Ill., tombstone maker George Bell. The DVD is available for $20 plus tax at www.southernmostillinoishistory.com. Proceeds from the sale of the DVD will help fund community and economic development program administered through the Southernmost Illinois Delta Empowerment Zone.
