Social explains documenting artwork

Peter Nguyen and Nick Toebaas will discuss documenting artwork with photography and putting together portfolio submissions for juried exhibitions during Southeast Missouri Arts Council's Saturday Social from 1 to 3 p.m. April 20 at the Arts Council gallery, 32 N. Main St. Nguyen is director of the Crisp Museum at Southeast Missouri State University. Toebaas is the office manager at the Arts Council and is adjunct instructor in the Art Department at Southeast. Topics that will be discussed include cameras, setup and lighting for professionals and do-it-yourselfs. Also discussed will be image file formatting and preparing images for submission to professional juried art competitions. This Saturday Social is hosted in conjunction with the 11th annual Visual Arts Cooperative Show. It is free to the public.

This comedy follows Carnelle Scott, a young woman in Brookhaven, Miss., as she attempts to win The Miss Firecracker Contest on the Fourth of July. Carnelle has made some mistakes in her young life that have earned her the nickname "The Hot Tamale," but she's sure her reputation can be mended if she wins the Miss Firecracker Contest. The production contains adult content. Tickets may be purchased by contacting the River Campus Box Office, in the Cultural Arts Center, 518 S. Fountain St., from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., weekdays or by calling 651-2265. Tickets also may be purchased at RiverCampusEvents.com.

Fashion show benefits Friends of Saint Francis

From 6 to 8:30 p.m. on April 11, guests will get a sneak peak at fashion trends and learn plenty of tips to freshen up wardrobes this spring and summer.
