Wednesday is the deadline for submissions to the Mississippi River Photo Shoot Out, sponsored by the Corps of Engineers' National Great Rivers Museum and Jacoby Arts Center in Alton, Illinois. The juried contest celebrates life along the Mississippi River. Photos for the exhibit may be taken anywhere along the river. While the river does not have to be depicted in the artwork, its subject matter must have a direct relationship to the Mississippi. Red Light Nights, a series of after-hours discussions on controversial topics within the arts held on select Thursdays, will open its spring schedule at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri, 32 N. Main St. in Cape Girardeau. The first presenter will be Tyler Harris. There is no admission charge, but the discussions and materials presented are intended for mature audiences. Acting Out!, a community theater troupe, is raising funds to cover the rights for its upcoming musical, "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown." An opening reception will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Feb. 20 at the Cape Girardeau County History Center, 102 S. High St. in Jackson, for an exhibit of works by Missouri artist Gary Lucy. The exhibit, titled "Eating Up the Lights," will be on display through March. The main exhibit will hang at the center, but some of Lucy's works also will be displayed at High Street Station, Cobblestone Corner, Vintage Marketplace, Print Zone and Sweetheart Florist. On the day of the grand opening, visitors will have the opportunity to view one of Lucy's works in progress.
Henry Graham will display his model trains in the Youth Services Program Room of the Cape Girardeau Public Library, 711 N. Clark Ave., this month.
