The Heartland Pops will perform its annual Christmas concert Monday. The Heartland Pops 2009 Christmas Concert features the Heartland Pops Chorus and musicians and special guests The Southern Brothers, St. Paul School Children's Choir and Janie Brown and The Chestnut Mountain Gang as well as Barbara Fairchild, who will perform and read the story of the Nativity during the second act. The 2009 concert is at 7:15 p.m. Monday at Academic Hall at Southeast Missouri State University. A shuttle service from the Show Me Center will begin at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 and can be ordered by calling 243-7473 or 238-4891.
CHARLESTON, Mo. -- The United Methodist Church in Charleston will host a holiday concert for the public to come and remember the "reason for the season." The concert features Terry A. Parker on organ, Sallie B. Goodin on piano, Sam C. Goodin and Jane Goodin Memorial Handbells, Lydia Eddy Holton on cello and special music by Mary Katherine Branum and Kerry Davis. The "Celebrate Christmas in Charleston" concert will be at 4 p.m. Dec. 13, at the United Methodist Church in Charleston.
Comedian, actor and songwriter Rodney Carrington will perform at 7 p.m. April 9 at the Show Me Center. Carrington performed at the venue in October 2007 and appeared in Poplar Bluff, Mo., in April. He has recorded eight major record label comedy albums, starred in his own self-titled TV sitcom on ABC for two seasons and recently co-wrote and co-starred with Toby Keith in the movie "Beer for My Horses." Over the summer Carrington released the CD "El Nino Loco," followed by a Christmas album, "Make It Christmas." Tickets are $41.75 and will be available starting at 10 a.m. today at the Show Me Center ticket office, all Ticketmaster locations, online at ticketmaster.com and by phone at 800-745-3000. This concert is for mature audiences only.
The Glenn House, 325 S. Spanish St., will host several holiday events this season. The house will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday in December with musical performances on select days by the St. Andrew Mission Bells, Dan Cotner, Dan Wiethop, the Jerry Ford Combo, Dr. Paul Thompson Ensemble and Westminster Choir. For group tours, call Polly Cotner at 335-8533. Admission for the tours is $5 for adults, $2 for children. The house will also hold a Candlelight Tour from 5 to 7 p.m. Dec. 19.
As part of an annual Wehrenberg Co. promotion, Cape West 14 Cine and the Salvation Army will hold the annual Cans Film Festival to benefit the Salvation Army's Tree of Lights campaign. People who bring five canned goods to the movie theater Saturday will receive free admission to any movie that starts before 5 p.m. Bring 10 more cans and receive a free movie pass for a future visit.
"The Art of Photography," an exhibit by local professional photographer Tom Neumeyer, is on display at the Cape Girardeau Public Library, 711 N. Clark Ave. The Friends of the Cape Girardeau Public Library Foundation will receive a portion of the proceeds from photograph sales. The exhibition is hung in the Geraldine Hirsch Community Room of the library. Neumeyer has a background in photojournalism and writing. His photographs have been accepted in juried shows in 2009 and have earned top awards.
