Native American events scheduled
Native American artifacts, clothing, arts and crafts are on display in the University Museum lobby through November.
The display was organized by Paul White Eagle, chief of the Ah-Ni-Wvi-Wi-Ya tribe.
Another display along with Native American demonstrations of flintknapping, basket weaving, flute music and the use of the blow gun will be presented from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the University Center lobby.
White Eagle, who moved to Cape Girardeau recently, will give a lecture on Native Americans in Southeast Missouri at 7 p.m. Thursday in the University Museum galleries in Memorial Hall. He is a native of the Bloomfield-Dexter area he calls Tla-Da-Tsa-Yi, "the place of the panther."
Southeast students bring home music prizes
KIRKSVILLE, Mo. -- A number of Southeast Missouri State University students won prizes at the Missouri Music Teachers Association state convention Oct. 31-Nov. 3 at Truman State University in Kirksville.
Four Southeast students were pronounced winners in their performance category. These included: Lower Division Collegiate Piano: Amelie Morgan, a freshman from Jackson and student of Dr. James Sifferman; Lower Division Collegiate Woodwinds: Carrie Womack, bassoon, from Perryville, a student of Mrs. Linda Huck; Upper Division Collegiate Woodwinds: Christina VanNostrand, flute, from Cape Girardeau and a student of Paul Thompson; Upper Division Collegiate Organ: Laura Bollinger from Cape Girardeau, a student of Dr. Gary Miller.
Students receiving honorable mention in Lower Division Collegiate Piano included Shannon Scott from Altenburg, a student of Dr. James Sifferman. Michelle Carlson of Edina, Minn., received an Honorable Mention in Upper Level Collegiate Organ. She is a student of Dr. Gary Miller.
Matt Martin of Jackson competed in the Music Teachers National Association competition. He received an honorable mention for his 45-minute recital on trumpet. He is a student of Dr. Marc Fulgham.
Fifteen students from Southeast participated in the competition, which consisted of 15-minute recital programs before a judge. Southeast students competed against musicians from the University of Missouri at Kansas City Conservatory, the University of Missouri at Columbia, Truman State University, Central Missouri State University, Missouri Western and Southwest Missouri State University.
Broken Grass to open for Neal McCoy
Broken Grass, a Carbondale, Ill., bluegrass band playing tonight at the River City Yacht Club, has been booked to open for country star Neal McCoy when he performs at the Show Me Center Dec. 8.
The band begins playing at 9 tonight.
'Girls, Girls, Girls' at Camp Restaurant
A show titled "Girls, Girls, Girls" will be presented tonight at the Camp Family Restaurant. The all-female show also will include performances by Fara, Stella Blue, Georgie, Elizabeth Hooker and Phyllis Burke and the Good Ol' Boys.
The show begins at 9 p.m.
'A Night with Dame Edna' begins Tuesday
ST. LOUIS -- "A Night with Dame Edna: The Show That Cares" will be presented Tuesday through Nov. 17 at the Fox Theatre.
Dame Edna is the creation of Australian actor Barry Humphries.
Shows are at 8 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, at 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Sunday. For information, phone (314) 534-1111.
Fall-Christmas Concert for choirs Nov. 21
The Southeast Missouri State University Choir will present its annual Fall-Christmas Concert at 8 p.m. Nov. 21 in Academic Auditorium.
The New Madrid County Central Singing Eagles will perform as guests of the University Choir.
The University Choir is directed by Dr. John Egbert, with accompaniment by Tyson Wunderlich. The high school choir is directed by Judy Henry.
Admission is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors and university faculty and staff and $4 for all students.
Central graduate has art exhibition
FULTON, Mo. -- "Mischievously Prolonging the Outcome," an exhibit of art by Michael Minner, opens Nov. 19 at the Mildred M. Cox Gallery at William Woods University. An opening reception will be held from 4-6 p.m. Nov. 19.
Minner, a Central High School graduate, is the son of Michael and Robin Minner of Cape Girardeau and will graduate in May with a bachelor's degree in art education.
The exhibit continues through Dec. 13.
Cape Choraliers to hold reunion
Former members of the Cape Choraliers, a chorus active in the 1950s and 1960s, are invited to the group's 50th reunion.
The event will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Nov. 16 in the Hirsch Community room at the Cape Girardeau Public Library.
Cape native on John Mayer tour
Luke Lowes, the son of Debbie Barnhouse of Cape Girardeau, is working as a member of the road crew for pop musician John Mayer.
As the tour's drum technician, Lowes has traveled to 40 different city during the summer and just finished two-week tours of Europe and Australia.
Lowes was the drum major in the Central High School marching band before graduating in 1997. He also was a member of the Golden Eagles Marching Band at Southeast Missouri State University. He graduated from the Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences in Tempe, Ariz., in 1999.

'Holiday with the Pops' Dec. 4
"Holiday with the Pops" will be presented Dec. 4 by the newly formed Heartland Pops Orchestra and Chorus.
The concert is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Old St. Vincent's Church. The guest narrator will be KFVS-TV12 anchor Dave Courvoisier.
The musical group is directed by Jerry Ganiel.
Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students. Children under 3 are free.
