The Catholic Campus Ministry at Southeast Missouri State University has planned a Christmas concert to benefit the local food pantry and future ministry projects. The 2009 Joy of Christmas Concert, a 2-year-old concert, features popular holiday songs sung by Justin Moore, Sarah Orlovsky, Mary Bauer and others. The concert will be at 7 p.m. Dec. 4 at Old St. Vincent Catholic Church. The concert is free, but donations are encouraged and cookies will be served. SIKESTON, Mo. -- Downtown Sikeston will begin the Christmas season with "Holiday Magic," with Santa Claus, treats and pictures, The Dickens Carolers and more, all starting with the lighting of the Community Christmas Tree at 5 p.m. Dec. 4. The "Conductor" will read "The Polar Bear Express" at 5:30 p.m. at the Sikeston Public Library, the Sikeston Civil War re-enactors will recreate "A Soldier's Christmas Dinner" at 6:15 in Legion Square Park, and Habitat for Humanity will draw for its Playhouse Raffle at 7:30 p.m. in the Sikeston Depot Museum. The ninth annual Sikeston Christmas Home Tour will be from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. with four homes and the Depot Museum. Tickets for the home tour are $10 and available at the Sikeston Depot. The Empty Bowls Project has leftover bowls available for sale. The Empty Bowls Project served more than 500 people during two banquets to raise money for local food banks, and the not-for-profit still has about 200 bowls for sale in Cape Girardeau. The handmade, painted bowls are for sale at Garden Gallery. The sale of the remaining bowls will also benefit local food banks.
SIKESTON, Mo. -- The annual children's production at the Sikeston Little Theatre will be "A Dickens of a Christmas," a twist on the classic story. Tickets are $7 in advance, available Wednesday at Collins Music or reserved by phone at 573-481-0255. The show runs Dec. 10 to 13.
The Father's Arms Fellowship will hold its annual Christmas Bazaar for the needy with a white-elephant sale, a raffle, a bake sale and food. The church will serve chili and potato soup, drink and dessert for $6 or $3 for 12 and younger and free for children younger than 6. Cash and toy donations will also be accepted. The church uses profit from the bazaar to buy coats, toys and food for families in Scott City. The bazaar will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 5 at the Father's Arms Fellowship at 1400 Main St., Scott City.
