Swingle to sign book 'Gold of Cape Girardeau'

Cape Girardeau County Prosecuting Attorney Morley Swingle will sign copies of his first novel, "The Gold of Cape Girardeau," at events today and Saturday.

The book, an historical novel, has just been published by the Southeast Missouri State University Press. It begins with a contemporary court case in Cape Girardeau and delves into the region's steamboat and Civil War history.

A reception for Swingle will be held from 4 to 5:30 p.m. today at the University Museum.

Swingle also will sign copies of the book beginning at 3 p.m. Saturday at Barnes & Noble.

He is scheduled to deliver a lecture Nov. 18 titled "Researching the Historical Novel." The event is set for 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the University Center Ballroom.

Saxophonist to play at Jazz at the Bistro

ST. LOUIS -- Saxophonist James Carter will perform with his organ trio Wednesday through Nov. 9 at Jazz at the Bistro.

Carter played the role of legendary tenor saxophonist Ben Webster in the movie "Kansas City."

Scott City student in play at Rolla

ROLLA, Mo. -- A.J. Bedwell, a sophomore in biological sciences from Scott City, Mo., will play the eldest daughter Rosaura in an upcoming production of "The Liar."

The play opens Thursday at the University of Missouri-Rolla.

Notre Dame to present 'Lend Me a Tenor'

Notre Dame Regional High School will present the comedy "Lend Me a Tenor" beginning Thursday and continuing through Nov. 9.

The cast includes Drew Willett, Sara Nenninger, Pete Wissinger, Steve Wissinger, Elizabeth Stewart, Jonathan Long, Rachel Roggow and Jessica Anderson.

Performances will begin at 7 p.m. at the school cafetorium.

'Don't Dress' to open Nov. 8 at Rose Theatre

The French bedroom farce "Don't Dress for Dinner" will open Nov. 8 at the Rose Theatre.

Performances of the University Theatre production also are scheduled Nov. 9, 14, 15 and 16 at 8 p.m. and at 2 p.m. Nov. 17.

Directed by Dennis Seyer, the two-act play features James Adams, Janel Mason, Tim Nicolai, Meagan Edmonds, Lydia Blades and James Vondielingen.
