Faculty, students display artwork

Catapult Creative House gallery, 612 Broadway, will exhibit artwork produced by Southeast Missouri State University faculty members with their past and current students. "Within These Walls: Catapult Mentor Exhibition" will be on display through Jan 28. A reception is set from 5 to 9 p.m. Nov. 6 at the gallery. Those attending may tour the entire Catapult facility. Miniature paintings showcased

Collaborative miniature paintings on Masonite will be featured at Aaron Horrel and Barbara Bailey: Transition Spaces 15.2 when the show opens today in the Crisp Museum at Southeast Missouri State University's River Campus, 518 S. Fountain St. An opening reception is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. Nov. 6, and an artist talk is set for at 6 p.m. Nov. 12. The paintings will remain on display through Jan. 9, and admission is free. Artwork reflects 'Notable Quotable'

Famous quotes will be reflected in the works of regional student artists in the Notable Quotable Exhibition, which will be displayed at the River Campus Art Gallery of Southeast Missouri State University, 518 S. Fountain St., beginning Monday. The gallery will host a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Nov. 6. This juried art show, which highlights type as art, was organized by the Southeast American Institute of Graphic Arts student group. Kate Schaefer, a senior designer for Concord/rustmedia and an alumna of Southeast Missouri State University, is the show's juror. Reception for artist Gary Lucy

The Arts Council of Southeast Missouri, 32 N. Main St. in Cape Girardeau, will host a reception for artist Gary Lucy from 5 to 9 p.m. Nov. 6. A combination of Lucy's original artwork and high-quality prints will be on display at the council's gallery during November. A native of Caruthersville, Missouri, Lucy attended Southeast Missouri State University. He is best known locally for his mural "Inland Waterways: The Highways of Our Heritage," which hangs at the Holland School of Visual and Performing Arts at Southeast's River Campus. In addition to the Lucy display, the council also will debut new works by members of the Visual Arts Cooperative. Window exhibitors for November will be Annie Schuchart and Margaret Schneider.

Selfie Scavenger Hunt scheduled

The Arts Council of Southeast Missouri, 32 N. Main St., will sponsor a Selfie Scavenger Hunt during First Friday with the Arts on Nov. 6. Every #FFSELFIE submitted will be entered into a drawing for a $100 gift certificate that may be used at participating First Friday galleries. Trivia night benefits Acting Out!

Cup 'n' Cork, 11 S. Spanish St., will host a trivia night Nov. 21 to benefit Acting Out! Teams of six people are asked to preregister by noon Nov. 18. The sixth member of the team will get in free on teams that preregister. Preregistration fee is $8 per person, and the fee is $10 per person at the door. Arts Council sets craft extravaganza

The Arts Council of Southeast Missouri's 45th annual Arts and Crafts Extravaganza is scheduled for Nov. 21 and 22 at the Osage Centre, 1625 N. Kingshighway, and Show Me Center, 1333 N. Sprigg St., in Cape Girardeau. More than 300 crafters and artisans from across the Midwest will sell their wares at the craft show, just in time for Christmas. Each booth may sell only handmade items, and a Best-of-Show booth will be named at each location. The hours for this year's extravaganza will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 21 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 22. A $5 ticket is good for both locations and both days. Volunteers needed: The Arts Council is looking for help with wrist-banding guests from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 21 at the Osage Centre. Volunteers will get into the craft fair for free afterward. Those who would like to volunteer should email the Arts Council at artscouncil@capearts.org, or call (573) 334-9233.
