WalkingStick exhibit reception is today

The Southeast Missouri Regional Museum will hold an opening reception today at 4 p.m. for the exhibit "Kay WalkingStick: Mythic Dances, Paintings from Four Decades" that opened at the museum Oct. 8 and will run until Nov. 21. WalkingStick will attend the reception and will give a gallery talk at 4:30 p.m.

Christmas open house at the Garden Gallery

The Garden Gallery, 833 Broadway, will have a Christmas open house today from 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. The open house will feature glass-blown ornaments by Terry Bloodworth from the Springfield Hot Glass Studio in Springfield, Mo., ornaments by Cape Girardeau's Marsha Clark and jewelry by Leslie Lawrence Jensen of Tucson, Ariz. There will also be punch and cookies served during the open house.

Haunted Hall of Horror ready to scare Cape

The 2004 Haunted Hall of Horror, sponsored by the Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department and River Radio, will open tonight at the Arena Building. The show also runs Saturday and Thursday to Oct. 31. Each Friday and Saturday, the hall of horror will be open from 7 p.m. to midnight, while on Thursday and Sunday it will be open from 7 to 11 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the door. Haunted ghost town features frights, scares

The Black Forest Village Haunted Ghost Town opens today and is also open Saturday and Oct. 29 and 30 from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. The ghost town features a variety of frights and scares set among the remote old-time village located on County Road 638, four miles north of Cape Girardeau. Steppin' Out performs at Broussard's

The jazz and blues quartet Steppin' Out will perform Saturday at Broussard's from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. The quartet is composed of singer Ruth Sauerbrann-Winstead, who has sung back-up and lead for the Waterstreet Blues Band and Motown artist Willy Bollinger; bassist Dean Sauerbrann, past president of Heartland Songwriters Association; lead guitarist and vocalist B. Douglas, who has 20 years of musical experience touring with his own blues and jazz band; and drummer Tony Alaimo, drummer for the University of Southern Illinois University symphony. Steppin' Out, which has over 110 years of musical experience between its members, performs everything from steel slide guitar, to acoustic blues and old-time blues, and even funk music. Octoberfest celebration offers wine sampling

Buckner Brewing Company, 132 N. Main St., will hold its First Annual Octoberfest from 12 to 5 p.m. Saturday. The event will feature wine sampling with wine from area wineries and beer sampling with beer from Buckner's as well as other area micro-breweries.

Guitar duo offer recital on Sunday

The McClellan-Livingston Guitar Duo will perform a recital at 3 p.m. Sunday at the First Presbyterian Church, 235 Broadway. The concert, presented by Southeast Missouri State University, will feature selections from Enrique Granados' "Spanish Dances," several sonatas by Spanish rococo composer Padre Antonio Soler and a contemporary suite by Italian composer/guitarist Carlo Domeniconi. Walker McClellan and Barry Livingston, who met while studying music at Webster University in St. Louis, have performed as a duo for three years. Mark Sparks performs in Cape again

Principal flutist of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra Mark Sparks will perform with the Southeast Missouri Chamber Orchestra at 8 p.m. Tuesday in Old St. Vincent's Church. Sparks performed with the chamber orchestra last year to a near-capacity crowd. This year, Sparks will be the featured soloist in the Vivaldi concerto "The Goldfinch," and in Bach's "Brandeburg Concerto No. 4." This performance is the second concert of the Commerce Bank Symphony Subscription Series. Tickets are available by calling the Performing Arts Box Office at 651-2265.

Dracula comes to Sikeston Little Theatre

SIKESTON, Mo. -- The Sikeston Little Theatre will open its 46th season with a performance of "Dracula" at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 28 through 30, and at 2 p.m. Oct. 31. The play is the first the theater has done since the opening of its new facility, the Albritton-Mayer Center at 506 S. Kingshighway. Tickets are available at Collins Music Company in downtown Sikeston.

Ghost town on tap at the Show Me Center

The 16th Annual Southeast Showcase's Halloween Bash takes place from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. Thursday at the Show Me Center. This year's bash turns the Show Me Center into a Ghost Town and offers samples of food and beverages from more than 40 area restaurants and vendors, and live music by Midlife Crisis.
