Big Muddy Monster Brewfest is Oct. 26

MURPHYSBORO, Ill. -- Building on a tradition of music, local food and American craft beer, the fourth annual Big Muddy Monster Brewfest will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Oct. 26 at Murphysboro's Riverside Park. Hosted by the Friends of Murphysboro, this year's event promises more than 200 craft beers from more than 50 of America's craft breweries. Live music will be by Rusty Nail, a Celtic folk-rock band from St. Louis. Advance general admission tickets are available for $20 at Dirt Cheap Liquor in Cape Girardeau. Tickets also are available at escapelocally.com for an additional $2 processing fee. Tickets will be available the day of the brewfest for $25. Nondrinking tickets for $6. Dark comedy slated at River Campus

Southeast Missouri State University's Department of Theatre and Dance will present "Sordid Lives," a dark American comedy about a dysfunctional Southern family, at the Rust Flexible Theatre at the River Campus. Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. from Oct. 30 to Nov. 2 and 2 p.m. Nov. 3. The winner of 14 Drama-Logue awards, "Sordid Lives" takes place in Winters, a small Texas town. The elderly family matriarch, Peggy, accidentally hits her head when she trips over her lover's wooden leg and bleeds to death. Her Southern family comes together for the funeral. Jazz Series 'Marching In' with season opener

Southeast Missouri State University's Department of Music will present its annual Jazz Series season opener, "The Jazz Saints Go Marching In," at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 1 in the Bedell Performance Hall at Southeast's River Campus. It will feature members of the two jazz ensembles as soloists plus a special performance from the Department's own Dixieland band. Featured musicians will include Southeast's Brian Martin on trumpet, Stephen Watkins on tenor saxophone and vocalist Marie Meunier. Highwaymen tribute coming to Farmington

FARMINGTON, Mo. -- Mineral Area Council on the Arts will bring back a tribute to a legendary collaboration of three country-music titans in November. "The Highwaymen Live," a tribute band featuring the music of Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 2 at Farmington's Centene Center. Tickets are $18.50 for reserved seating and are available at the Farmington Civic Center at No. 2 Black Knight Drive in Farmington or by calling 573-756-0900. The show is sponsored by Mineral Area Council on the Arts and First State Community Bank. "The Highwaymen" features Michael Moore as Nelson, Bob Gill as Jennings and Daryl Weyman as Cash. Author Eugene Munger Jr., a Cape Central High School and Southeast Missouri State University graduate, has published his third book. "Leaving New Madrid" is available in print or on Kindle at Amazon.com. Royalties benefit his mother Ruth H. Munger's endowed scholarship at Southeast.
