Downtown Christmas parade announced

Cape Girardeau's 13th annual downtown Christmas Parade of Lights will take place at 5 p.m. Nov. 28, starting at Capaha Park and proceeding down Broadway to Main Street. Those wanting to participate in the parade should contact Kent or Vicki Zickfield or Greg Cook at 335-5681. An entry form must be completed by Nov. 8 in order to participate.

Southeast Wind Symphony plays first fall concert

The Southeast Wind Symphony, under the direction of Barry Bernhardt, director of university bands, will have its first concert of the fall semester at 8 p.m. Thursday in Academic Auditorium. At 7:30 p.m., Bernhardt will present a lecture on the concert literature. The symphony will perform "Ride" by Samuel Hazo, "Danny Boy" by Percy Grainger (in memory of Dr. Daniel Dunavan), "Liturgical Dances" by David Holsinger, "Scotch Strathespey and Reel" by Grainger, two pieces by Ingolf Dahl and "Easter Monday on the White House Lawn" by J.P. Musical season finale at Lake Wappapello

This is the last weekend for live music at the Lake Wappapello Outdoor Theatre. Tonight, the Rivermen Gospel Quartet will perform, as will Cape Girardeau's The Happy Four. The Dement Brothers from Annapolis, Mo., will perform Saturday. All performances start at 6:30 p.m. The theater is located two miles south of the Wappapello Dam on Route T, next to Fisherman's Net Restaurant. Local musician takes a trip back to Arkansas

Dan Wiethop is a familiar name among musicians and music lovers in Cape Girardeau, but before moving to Southeast Missouri, he was a well-known musician in Northwest Arkansas. Wiethop made a return visit to Arkansas last weekend to take part in the 15th anniversary celebration for the Little O' Oprey, a music venue he opened in 1989 and left in the hands of the Oprey board of directors when he moved to Cape Girardeau. While at the anniversary celebration, Wiethop received a certificate of appreciation from the board.

Fall concert by Cape Central orchestras

The Cape Central Freshman Orchestra and the Cape Central Orchestra, under the direction of Steve Schaffner, will present a free fall concert at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Cape Central Commons.

Autumn Wine Festival features music, barbecue

On Saturday, the Cache River Basin Vineyard and Winery is holding an Autumn Wine Festival, with live music by Nat Williams and food from Hog Wild Bar-B-Que. The winery is located at 315 Forman Lane in Belknap, Ill. For more information, contact the winery at (618) 658-2274.

Local artist donates pastel piece to TRCC

Cape Girardeau artist Craig Thomas recently donated a pastel drawing to Three Rivers Community College in Poplar Bluff, Mo. The piece Thomas donated is called "Meditation" and is a life-sized image of a young woman clasping her knees. It will become part of the college's art collection, which is contained primarily in the Tinnin Fine Arts Center on campus.
