Though Garrison Keillor will be in Southeast Missouri for a live performance in May, fans of the NPR radio show "A Prairie Home Companion" can get a peak at the comedian in a high-def production at 7 p.m. Feb. 4 and 9 at Town Plaza Cinema. "A Prairie Home Companion" airs regularly on Southeast Missouri's public radio station, KRCU. Tickets are $7 and available through KRCU's website, www.semo.edu/sepr, or Town Plaza Cinema.
The Choral Union at Southeast Missouri State University is open to the public with no auditions required. The Choral Union will be learning parts two and three -- The Easter Portion -- of Hendel's "Messiah." Rehearsals begin Tuesday and continue from 7 to 8:45 p.m. Tuesdays in the Instrumental Rehearsal Room (155) of the main building on the River Campus. CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Emma's Revolution, an acoustic pair of activist musicians, will play a concert to benefit AIDS in Africa. The Zambian HIV/AIDS Partnership Benefit Concert and Silent Auction helps the partnership with Ranchhod Hospice and Orphan Care in Kabwe, Zambia. Part of the proceeds will also be donated to HIV/AIDS services in Southern Illinois. The silent auction begins at 6:30 p.m., Feb. 13 at the Carbondale Unitarian Fellowship in Carbondale; music starts at 8. Tickets are $15 in advance; $20 at the door and $10 for students. Applications for artists and crafters to participate in the first Arts by the River fine arts show are due Feb. 1. The show, held March 20 and 21 and organized by the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri, will be inside the atrium of the River Campus main building. People with mixed media, baskets, clay, drawings, sculpture and other mediums for sale can find an application at www.capearts.org under the event forms tab.
