The Bands: Last Day Fighting, Weekend, Pizzasaurus Rex, Rock Solid
By Cara Stone
Still recovering from the New Year's holiday, and an 11 day tour with Squadcar, Pizzasaurus Rex performed a final show for a packed crowd at The Camp on Monday January 10. I am sorry to say I was the only Rage 103.7 staff member in attendance. The rest of the staff missed a kickass rock show.
Kicking off the show was Last Day Fighting, an exceptional local high school band. Don't let their ages and baby faces fool you, they are a great band. Despite being short a guitar player, the three piece sounded tight and were fun to watch.
Taking over the show, Weekend got the huge crowd on their feet. For a Monday night The Camp was a packed house. Weekend sounded great bring their darker double-bass metal style to the show.
Then the crowd welcomed home Pizzasaurus Rex, The Rex sounded sweet as they charmed the crowd with their melodic tunes. After touring for 11 days the three guitar players (and not to mention Jeb and Andy) really harmonized and played a hell of a show.
Rock Solid was the closer. For those of you who don't know the history of Rock Solid let me share... Rock Solid is comprised of some of the best musicians playing in the area. Drummer Ron Ruppel of Tone Def-All Stars took over drumming duties for Rock Solid over the summer. Bassist Jeb Venable also currently plays for the Dirty 30's. Joining the ranks is Sensei John Kreese who currently plays in Squadcar and the Dirty 30's, and Party Nate of Pizzasaurus Rex.
The reason I spew forth all this information is because Rock Solid is AMAZING! The band sounded awesome wooing the crowd with their intense wall of power jams. One after another Rock Solid shook the audience with earthquake sized riffs. During the last song the band started with an intense build up of feedback and low end rumble that culminated in a huge blast when the entire band broke into crowd favorite "Contra Wars 3". A powerful end to an amazing show. What a way to spend a Monday!
