SIKESTON, Mo. - Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Swiney of Sikeston announce the engagement of their daughter, Amy Marie Swiney, to Neil Gates Jr. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Gates Sr. of Sikeston.

Swiney is a 1999 graduate of Thomas W. Kelly High School. She is pursuing a bachelor of science degree in finance at Southeast Missouri State University.

Gates received an associate of applied science degree in automotive technology from Lynn State Technical College in 1997. He is an automotive technician at Missouri Department of Transportation in Sikeston.

A Feb. 16 wedding is planned at First Christian Church.
