Wait is over for Qdoba fans: Grill opens today

Fans longing for Cape Girardeau's Qdoba Mexican Grill to open will finally have their chance to sample the restaurant's fare starting today.

Qdoba, at the corner of Silver Springs Road and William Street, will be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Richard Davidson and fellow owner Jerry Wieser plan to eventually open other Qdoba restaurants in Paducah, Ky., and the Marion-Carbondale, Ill., area, but for now are concentrating their efforts to see how the Cape Girardeau location performs.

"We've been working on this project for almost two years, so we're excited to bring this to Cape Girardeau," Davidson said.

* Clark Appliance Center closes, changes names and business model: When Lana Durham came on board at Clark Appliance Center, she had big plans for the store at 223 S. Plaza Way in Cape Girardeau. But a combination of a bad economy and a family illness sidelined those plans.

On June 30 the store began shutting down. However, it has changed its business model to in-home repairs and is now known as AA Appliance Repair. Durham, who is the grandaughter of owners Harley and Vita Clark, said they are trying to establish their phone number at the moment.

* Cain opens: Doc Cain's newest restaurant has opened.

Cain, an upscale dining restaurant, is open from 5 to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The restaurant is in the former Lewis and Clark Cafe restaurant at 31 N. Main St. in Cape Girardeau. Reservations may be made by calling 339-8709.

This is the second restaurant Doc Cain has opened, though his son, James, is the head chef and manager. Doc Cain also owns Port Cape Girardeau in downtown Cape Girardeau.

* Lincare Home Health moves: The Cape Girardeau Lincare office has relocated to 286 Christine St. Formerly at 1733 N. Kingshighway, the new 2,400-square-foot space is in a development known as Christine Corner.

Established in 1965, the Clearwater, Fla.-based company has more than 1,000 locations in 48 states and employs more than 10,000 health care workers. Lincare provides in-home oxygen and infusion therapy, adult and child respiratory services and various rehabilitation programs.

Tom Kelsey, broker with Lorimont Place Ltd., handled the deal. He said the space was completely remodeled for their use. The building was formerly occupied by the U.S. Postal Service as a temporary post office facility. Lincare's local office serves the Cape Girardeau and Southeast Missouri areas. The company relocated to the new facility Sept. 1.

* Nurses association accredited: The Visiting Nurse Association of Southeast Missouri has met the Healthcare Quality Association's Durable Medical Equipment accreditation requirements. This is achieved when home medical equipment companies demonstrate a high quality of practices in business operations and patient care techniques. The organization earned the three-year accreditation after completing a comprehensive application and on-site survey.

* Adams takes over Oak Ridge diner: Ron's Diner has changed names and management.

When Terri Adams recently became managing officer of the cafe at 2984 Route KK in Oak Ridge, she decided it was time for the restaurant to become known as Terri's Country Cafe.

A 25-year veteran in the restaurant industry, Adams' most recent job was 10 years at the American Legion hall in Perryville, Mo. This is her first time to serve as manager of a restaurant.

"I've been doing this work for many years, so when this opportunity came available I took a leap of faith and decided to try it."

Future plans for the cafe include extending the hours of operation and serving beer. The cafe, which Adams said is famous for its homemade pies, is open 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday. Starting next week the cafe will maintain the 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. hours.

* Altenburg winery reopens under new ownership: After being closed nearly five months, Tower Rock Winery & Vineyard in Altenburg, Mo., has reopened. New co-owner Nancy Hadler said the winery began serving customers again Sept. 12. Her son, Ben Tully, is the vintner and operations manager.

The winery has added inventory to its gift shop including wine and wine related-products.

"Part of our motivation for the winery is that my family is from this area," said Hadler, who has a number of relatives living in Perry County. "So it's kind of like old-home week when I travel back there from St. Louis on the weekends."

Cheryl and Bob Breuer established the vineyard 10 years ago. Hadler purchased the winery after Bob Breuer died in October.
