Variety of endeavors seeking Cape business licenses

An interesting mix of businesses recently filed for licenses at Cape Girardeau City Hall.

* Eustis Studios will open Wednesday at 1606 Independence St. It is owned by K. Eustis, a New Orleans artist and sculptor. The studio will offer fine art and custom framing. John Buckner will serve as manager. Look for more about this business online at www.semissourian.com/features/.

Fumatore di Sigaro will open at 1730 Kingsway Drive, Suite 101 on Sept. 1. The store, owned by Scott Pietreface of Jackson, will have hand-rolled cigars, accessories and a smoking lounge.

Stephanie's Celebrations & Memories will also open Sept. 1 at 1200 N. Kingshighway, Suite 3. The store will sell balloons, candy bouquets, pageant items, clothes, jewelry, hair bows and custom embroidered items as well as offer party and wedding planning services. It is owned by Stephanie Rose of Sikeston, Mo.

Goly Entertainment, recording studio and artist development business, recently opened at 57 S. Plaza Way. Owner Morris Boyd of Cape Girardeau will also offer photo, video and CD duplication as well as printing and design. Rodney Stolles of Cape Girardeau will manage the business.

* Big River partners with BOLD, Wright Group: Big River Broadband will launch its seven-county wireless broadband network with promotional assistance from BOLD Marketing and The Wright Group. The $33 million project is funded in part with a $24 million combination grant and loan through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act's broadband initiative.

BOLD Marketing and The Wright Group will work in unison to promote Big River Broadband's wireless network build out, corresponding Wi-Fi hot spots and retail stores in various locations within the seven-county region, and other services related to the broadband project.

* Dogwash now open at Bush Pet Products: A self-service dog wash has been added at Bush Pet Products new location, 1720 Kingsway Drive, Suite 105. The store has expanded its hours to accommodate the wash. Hours are now 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Self-serve customers are welcome to come anytime during business hours to wash their pets. The last bath must be started is 30 minutes before close. A line of all-natural and hypoallergenic shampoos and conditioners is available in addition specific treatments like deshedding, deticking, defleaing and deskunking. Manual toothbrushing and a blueberry facial are also offered. Over the next couple of months, owner Stacy Busch-Heisserer said she will be adding in nail trimming, Waterpik dental cleanings, and full-service bathing. * Downtown business sign gets a face lift: Broadway Prescription Shop's original wooden sign, which dates back to the 1970s, has recently been restored. After hanging proudly for nearly 40 years, the sign was in drastic need of repair, according to pharmacy owners Lee Schlitt and Kevin Wood, who recently purchased Broadway Prescription Shop.

Tim Birk Roth, local artist and woodcarver, is responsible for the sign's recent rejuvenation. He restored rotted wood, painted and sealed the sign. According to Roth, it is the oldest hanging wooden sign in Cape Girardeau. The sign is a mortar and pestle, a tool used to compound pharmaceuticals and a pharmacy icon.

Carroll Snead, a pharmacist with Broadway Prescription for 54 years who retired in 2009, originally constructed the sign. Broadway Prescription Shop is the oldest pharmacy in Cape Girardeau, dating back to 1932.
