A Jackson staple is getting a new lease on life.

Tim Stearns, owner of TJ’s Burgers, Wings and Pizza in Fruitland and The Bayou Cajun Smokehouse in Pocahontas, plans to reopen the recently-closed Lloyd’s of Jackson bar.

The bar, located at 123 S. High St., shut down earlier this year. It had been open under various names for 51 years.

“To be 100% honest, I was scrolling on Facebook and saw that Lloyd’s was closing. ... Lloyd’s has been there since 1973, so it’s one of those things I hated to see close,” Stearns said. “I made some phone calls and figured out who owned the building. and from there it all happened real fast.”

Stearns said he will not change much about the establishment besides adding new paint and possibly refurbishing smoke damage from the bar itself. Jen Steen, his front of house manager at The Bayou, will oversee Lloyd’s.

“I’m sure Jen … will have ideas for new drinks and different things like that, but for the most part it’s going to be the same old Lloyd’s that everybody has loved for years,” Stearns said.

Stearns and his team are aiming for a Friday, Sept. 20 reopening. He said Steen is currently starting the hiring process for new workers there.
