The Missouri Press Association has named Southeast Missourian reporter Bridget DiCosmo an inaugural Missouri Outstanding Young Journalist of the Year.

DiCosmo has covered the crime beat for the Southeast Missourian since July 2007. A graduate of St. John's University in Queens, N.Y., DiCosmo writes multiple daily stories in addition to in-depth crime reporting.

DiCosmo was nominated by editor Bob Miller and publisher Jon K. Rust. She will be recognized during the Missouri Press Association's annual awards luncheon Oct. 17 in Kansas City, Mo.

Her book, "Serial Murder 101," was released in early July. The book details the confessions of convicted serial rapist and murderer Timothy Krajcir to police since he was charged nearly two years ago for five cold cases in Cape Girardeau.

In addition to winning Young Journalist of the Year, DiCosmo has received awards from the Missouri Associated Press Managing Editors and the Suburban Newspapers of America.
