Elizabeth Heisserer, an attorney with the Cape Girardeau firm of Wilson and Heisserer, L.C., recently attended a Missouri Bar training session at the Lake of the Ozarks. Heisserer will be serving as a volunteer facilitator in the Missouri Bar's Complaint Resolution program. Volunteers received training during the session. Clients who believe they have not received professional treatment from their attorneys can file complaints with the Office of Chief Disciplinary Council, which will investigate. The program is provided at no cost to clients or lawyers.

Shannon Hunter of Michael Tanner Furnishings in Cape Girardeau recently earned first place in the Lexington Furniture's National Sales Contest by selling more of Lexington's Southern Living Collection than any other designer or sales associate in the country. Hunter, who has been with Michael Tanner since it opened in 1998, won a deluxe Coleman stainless steel grill. The Lexington Southern Living Collection is available at Michael Tanner Furnishings.

Jana Jateff of Cape Girardeau, senior sales director of Mary Kay Cosmetics, recently attended the Pearl Seminar held at Dallas, Texas. Jateff was recognized in the National Queens Court of Sales, where she earned a diamond and blue topaz ring. She was also recognized for leading her unit in the circle of achievement, having sold more than $300,000 in retail products for the year. Jateff was also honored for star achievement, having earned recognition in two courts.

Marilyn Schnare, a registered nurse from the GI Lab at Southeast Missouri Hospital, has been awarded the Microvasive Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates, Inc. (SGNA) $500 scholarship. The scholarship is one of 10 presented across the United States. It can be used toward an SGNA event, including the National SGNA meeting. Schnare will be recognized for winning the scholarships in the National SGNA Magazine.

William Gerry Keene of Keene Financial Group in Cape Girardeau recently completed an eight-week master's level "Issues in Estate Planning" course. The course, offered by the College for Financial Planning in Colorado, is designed to study estate planning issues and is part of a program which will Keene is a registered representative offering securities through FFP Securities Inc., member NASD/SIPOC, and a registered investment advisory agent offering services through FFP Advisory Services Inc.

Tim Speer, Shelter Insurance Co.'s agent in Farmington, has been honored among the company's top 10 percent of agents. Speer was named to the firm's Conference of Champions for 2001 based on overall agency operations, volume and quality of business written, customer service and meeting other corporate standards of sound agency operation. Speer has represented Shelter since April 1987 and has earned 10 life insurance conference honors and 12 conference honors for overall excellence in agency operations.

R. Alan Hedrick of County Wide Insurance Agency in Dexter was recently re-elected to the Board of Directors of the Missouri Association of Insurance Agents. Hedrick is active in the association, having served as chairman of the association's Automation Committee and chairman of the Young Agents Committee.

Phillip Hart of Phillip's Photography in Poplar Bluff recently attended Imaging USA, Professional Photographers of America's annual convention. This year's convention took place in Rosemont (Chicago), Ill. Hart was one of 6,000 attendees at the convention. The convention included more than 100 educational programs, a three-day trade show and the world's largest annual print exhibit with more than 3,000 award-winning images. The convention is considered to be one of the photography profession's premier events for imaging education.

Chartwells' educational dining services at Southeast Missouri State University was named "Regional Account of the Year" and a "Center of Excellence" recently at a Regional Chartwells awards banquet in Chicago. Chartwells' account at Southeast Missouri State placed at the top of 66 Chartwells accounts in this region, which includes Missouri, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Nebraska and parts of Indiana and Kansas. This award places Southeast among the top six Chartwells accounts in the nation.

William Brockmire of Cape Girardeau recently attended the 2001 Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT) annual meeting held at Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Brockmire, a two-year MDRT member, was among more than 7,000 Round Table members from 58 nations who attended the five-day session. Life insurance, financial services, estate planning, taxes and other topics were discussed during workshops held at the conference. MDRT is an international independent association of more than 24,000 life insurance and financial professionals.

Cheryl Mothes, investment representative for Edward Jones Financial Services in Jackson, was honored recently at a business management forum in New York City. She was one of 50 Edward Jones representatives honored for excellent business-management skills. While at the conference, she met with other Edward Jones representatives to share ideas for increasing office efficiency, improving customer service and investment knowledge. Edward Jones has more than 7,500 offices in the United States, Canada and United Kingdom.

Timothy Schwent, CPA with Schott & Van de Ven Certified Public Accountants in Cape Girardeau, recently completed a Western CPE continuing education conference in Hyannis, Maine. The week of training included seminars on taxation, management, accounting, auditing, consulting services and financial planning for public accountants. Schwent has been a CPA since 1976 and is a member of the Missouri Society of CPAs.

Dairel Denton Jr. of Poplar Bluff has received the nationally recognized mutual fund designation, BCM (board certified in mutual funds), by the Institute of Business and Finance. This designation is only conferred upon candidates who complete the Certified Fund Specialist designation program, consisting of a one-year educational course and comprehensive examination. The BCM program provides advisers who are qualified to consult their clients on the advisability and costs of acquiring or retaining mutual funds in their investment portfolio. Denton specializes in retirement, college and estate planning.

Lonnie Griggs of Jackson was honored recently as one of the best managers by Red Lobster restaurants. Only 36 managers receive the award. Griggs received the Diamond Club award in 1998, 1999 and 2000, making him one of few repeat winners for the company. The honor recognizes Red Lobster managers whose restaurants lead in financial performance and guest satisfaction. The Cape Girardeau restaurant ranked in the top 5 percent of both revenue and guest satisfaction for the 650 restaurants in North America. Red Lobster is a subsidiary of Darden Restaurants Inc.

Wilma Dooley of Jackson recently was recognized in the National Queens Court of Sales by Mary Kay. Dooley, who is a sales director, attended the national seminary in Dallas, Texas. She received a 14-karat gold ring with blue topaz and diamonds as part of her award recognition. She also was recognized for 18 years of a star consultant status. Dooley has been a sales representative and director for Mary Kay since 1980. Unit winners for the past year in this area are Olive Bales of Poplar Bluff, unit queen of sales; Sheila Hahs of Sedgwickville, Debbie Balsman of Perryville, Tammy VanGennip of Advance, Kelly Hartmann of Cape Girardeau, Cathy Barns of St. Clair, Sue Gloth of Chaffee, Debra Utterback of St. Clair, Tammy Richardet of Perryville and Ruby Marcinkowski of Chester, Ill.

Publisher Jerry Reppert of Anna, Ill., was in Washington, D.C., recently for a meeting with the U.S.

postmaster general. Reppert is chairman of the National Newspaper Association's government affairs committee. He and Postmaster Jack Potter discussed ways to resolve the postal service's financial woes. Projections indicate that the postal service could lose more than $1.5 billion and that a postal hike will "come sooner than later," Potter said. They talked about labor issues, the effect of closing smaller post office and the potential increase in the debt limit allowed by Congress.

KFVS 12 in Cape Girardeau has received four Emmy nominations from the Mid-America chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. The nominations were announced recently in St. Louis. The nominations were: "Back the blue" for live special event. "Missouri in mourning" for live spot news. "Bob in a box" for promotion image. "Weathering the storm" for news special. Emmy winners will be announced Sept. 15.

Michael Radake, CPA with Schott & Van de Ven, Certified Public Accountants in Cape Girardeau, has completed a three-day training on ACL software. ACL is the worldwide leader in data analysis solutions for audit and business professionals.

James Harlan, owner of Super D Express Pharmacy in Poplar Bluff, is new president-elect of the Missouri Pharmacy Association. Harlan has served on the group's executive board two years. He has been a member of the association's House of Delegates and Long Term Care Committee. A member of the Southeast Missouri Pharmacy Association, Harlan is a graduate of Northeast Louisiana College of Pharmacy. The Missouri Pharmacy Association, with headquarters in Jefferson City, serves as a professional organization for pharmacists.
