Ross Furniture is moving, liquidating remaining assests

Ross Furniture in Jackson is moving to a new, larger location after 33 years in uptown Jackson. Ross Furniture has purchased the former Sander Hardware building at 2310 East Jackson Blvd, said manager Adam Ross. Ross Furniture had been leasing its current location.

Renovations are underway now at the new location and should be completed in about a month, he said. The company is having a liquidation sale to sell all the inventory at its current location, 116 S. High St. The new store, which will offer 5,000 more square-feet of showroom space, will open with all new inventory, Ross said.

The new location will also allow all the store's furniture to be displayed on one floor, instead of three different floors as it is now. This has been problematic for many customers, Ross said.

The East Jackson Boulevard location will provide the company with greater visibility, he said. The building was completed in 1998 and Sanders Hardware operated there for four years before the business closed. Pro-Tire purchased the building in 2005, but closed a few years later. The building has been vacant since then.

* Public television station WSIU recently produced a 30 minute documentary special on the Electric Vehicle Conversion Convention held in Cape Girardeau last September. The event was organized by Cape Girardeau entrepreneur Jack Rickard and former automotive magazine writer and editor Brian Noto, who produce an online how-to video and blog series about electric car conversions on their website, EVTV. me. More than 140 people who build electric cars either for fun or for profit took part in last year's convention at the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport. * CrossFit 573 has opened in its new location at 3210 Old Cape Road in Jackson. Owner Blake Guilliams and trainer Dina Palmer, both U.S. Navy veterans, have been training clients in a garage since August 2010. The new 3,000 square-foot location was necessary to accommodate the growing business, said Guilliams, who is a Level 1 CrossFit instructor. CrossFit is a strength and conditioning program which includes constantly varied, functional movement performed at high intensity. CrossFit 573 is open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday and Wednesday, and from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday. * Brain Freeze frozen drink bar has opened inside Mixing 10 at 2 North Main Street in downtown Cape Girardeau.
