Four members of Southeast Missouri Hospital's nursing staff have been selected to serve as mentors under a new learning program offered through the Missouri League for Nursing.
Selected were Karen Hendrickson, assistant administrator and nurse executive; Gwen Thoma, director of educational services; Susan Lewis, nurse manager of medical progressive care; and Maggie Schuch, nurse manager of the cardiothoracic intensive care unit and surgical progressive care.
Under the program, which was created by the league's leadership council, four upper-level nursing students from institutions outside Cape Girardeau will be accepted by the hospital for an intensive two-day mentorship experience. The statewide leadership event will be held at selected Missouri hospitals in February.
Goals of the new program include encouraging professional and personal growth and enhancing communication, making decisions, delegation and supervision skills.
