Leslie Deal has joined the rehabilitation department of St. Francis Medical Center as supervisor of speech pathology-audiology.

Deal received her master's degree in speech pathology from the University of the Pacific and her master's in business administration from Drake University. She was most recently affiliated with the Rusk Rehabilitation Center at the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Diane Chartrau has been appointed supervisor of physical therapy in the medical center's rehabilitation department. Chatrau, who has a master's degree in physical therapy from Duke University, has been a member of the St. Francis physical therapy staff since 1989, and most recently served as a senior therapist and clinical coordinator at St. Francis.

Joyce A. Hill, a hearing aid specialist, has completed a Miracle-Ear training program and examination to become certified to fit Mirage, an ultra-small hearing system that fits completely in the ear canal.

Hill, a registered nurse, had to complete classroom instruction and an examination at Miracle-Ear headquarters in Golden Valley, Minn. The fitting of Mirage requires the use of special materials and advanced fitting techniques.

Hill, a Missouri-licensed and National Board-certified hearing instrument specialist, is with Miracle-Ear Center in Cape Girardeau. Hill is franchisee with B&S United Agencies Inc.

Brenda S. Grindstaff Ferst, vice president of public affairs for the Florida Retail Federation in Tallahassee, Fla., recently attained the certified association executive designation from the American Society of Associations Executives.

The CAE is the highest honor of professional achievement in the area of association management.

Ferst, formerly of Jackson, is a graduate of Jackson High School and attended Southeast Missouri State University. She has a degree in communications from Florida State University.

Carolyn Kempf, Mary Scholl and Laura Poole, all of Elite Travel, 354 Silver Springs Road, recently attended a Get-a-Way weekend hosted by the Cotton Club Casino in Greenville, Miss. The group also attended boat races at nearby Lake Ferguson.

David and Kathy Borgfield of Oak Ridge are new members of the American Angus Association. The association, with more than 24,000 active adult and junior members, is the largest beef cattle registry association in the world. The association records ancestral information and keeps records of production on more than 12 million registered angus for its members.

Lisa Dost, who joined Southwestern Bell Mobile Systems in 1992, has been promoted to the branch manager for the Topeka sales office.

She is responsible for developing and maintaining new business in Topeka. She previously served as business manager, directing customer services, credit activation and collections functions.

The company provides cellular service to 2.5 million customers in 54 U.S. markets.

Sharon Williams of Williams' Beltone Hearing Centers, 68 Doctors' Park, attended the International Hearing Society Convention and Exhibition at Opryland Hotel in Nashville, Tenn. recently. Educational seminars during the convention covered digital programmable hearing aid technology and new fitting techniques. IHS is the professional association for hearing instrument specialists.
