Vice president attends banking school; Two from Cape attend NextGen University; FedEx driver places in truck competition; Engineer honored for 15 years of service

Vice president attends banking school

Geoff Parker, vice president of First Missouri State Bank in Jackson, was among the 648 bankers taking part in the 58th annual two-week session of the Graduate School of Banking at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. Classes were from May 20 to June 1, with courses covering all aspects of banking, economics and related subjects.

Two from Cape attend NextGen University

J. Tim Blattner, certified financial planner, and Gregory Williams, investment adviser representative, both of First Financial Planner in Cape Girardeau, recently attended NextGen University, a three-day intensive wealth management seminar held at Duke University. The event focused on a program to help financial advisers meet their clients' investment objectives.

FedEx driver places in truck competition

Steven McBride, a driver for FedEx Freight based in Cape Girardeau, placed among the winners at the 2007 Missouri Truck Driving Championship in Joplin, Mo., on June 8 and 9. McBride captured the top spot in the four-axle class. He will go on to compete at the American Trucking Associations' 2007 National Truck Driving Championships, known as the "Super Bowl of Safety," Aug. 22 through 25 in Minneapolis. In addition, he will be recognized by FedEx as part of its safe driving initiative, The Chairman's Challenge.

Engineer honored for 15 years of service

Strickland Engineering recognized Mark Strickland on June 6 for his 15 years of service to the firm. Thomas Strickland, founder of the firm, presented him with a framed certificate in his honor. A reception was held at the firm's offices at 113 W. Main St. in Jackson. Mark Strickland graduated with a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Missouri at Rolla in 1992 and received his professional engineering license in 1993. Strickland is responsible for mechanical and electrical engineering design and project management.
