Anna Kangas, plan reviewer, recently began working with the city of Cape Girardeau Development Services division. Kangas is an architect through the American Institute of Architects and licensed with the Missouri Board of Architects. She received her Accredited Professional for the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design credential with Green Building Certification Institute in 2008, and achieved Construction Document Technologist credentials with Construction Specifications Institute in 2011. Kangas is a Jackson High School graduate and attended Drury University in Springfield, Mo. In 2008, she received a bachelor's degree in architecture design arts, art history and global perspectives minors. Kangas' senior project in college was team-designing and building the first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Platinum Habitat for Humanity house in the world. She previously worked with Gaskin Hill Norcross Architects/Engineers in Springfield, Mo.
Ryan Shrimplin has started with the city of Cape Girardeau as city planner. Shrimplin worked for six years as a planner for Centerville, Ohio, where he was heavily involved with that city's downtown district and provided staff support to city boards and commissions. Shrimplin also worked for WD Partners as a planner and project manager specializing in zoning approvals and construction permits. He received a bachelor's degree in environmental design from Miami University (Ohio) and a master's degree in city and regional planning from Ohio State University.
Gary Hill recently became a building/code inspector for Cape Girardeau, after retiring from public education. Hill is a journeyman plumber, industrial technology and construction instructor with six years of experience in residential and light commercial plumbing, and 12 years of experience teaching construction trades. He also spent five years as a junior and senior high school principal and nine years as a superintendent of schools. Hill has a bachelor's degree in education and industrial technology, a master's degree in educational administration and specialist's degree in educational administration.
The Cape Girardeau County Board of Realtors recently installed their officers for 2012. David E. Soto Sr. was installed as the board president. In addition, they installed Beth McFerron as board vice president, Kath Devor as board secretary and Tara Elfrink as board treasure. Paul Kitchen, Adam Burger and Kyla Baughman were named as the local board directors. Tina McMahon, Wendy Marberry, Debbie Thurman and Wanda Duncan were named as the state board directors. The board also appointed Sharon Gill as multiple listing service president, Patti Main as multiple listing service vice president and Liz Lockhart as multiple listing service secretary/treasure. The multiple listing service directors are Michelle Doughten, Wanda Duncan and Ricki Ing. Sharon Gill was also awarded the 2011 Realtor of the Year.
Joyce Hall of Chaffee, Mo., a financial representative with Modern Woodmen Fraternal Finanical, has completed Kaplan Financial's Needs Analysis course. The course teaches agents to analyze the personal life insurance needs of prospects, explain those needs to the prospect, determine the correct amount of insurance required to meet their needs and to explain why life insurance is the best solution for meeting those needs. Hall started with Modern Woodmen in June 2011. Modern Woodmen is a fraternal life insurance society based in Rock Island, Ill.
