Limbaugh presented with Star Award
Missouri Supreme Court Chief Justice Stephen N. Limbaugh Jr. was awarded the Star Award at the Missouri Court Reporters Convention in October. The award was for the contributions he has made in support of the court reporting profession in Missouri. Limbaugh was in private practice and then served three years as the prosecuting attorney of Cape Girardeau County before being appointed to the Missouri Supreme Court in 1992.
Van de Ven attends courses on tax changes
Scott A. Van de Ven, a CPA with Schott & Van de Ven, attended a series of courses focused on tax changes related to businesses and aggressive planning opportunities for businesses. The weeklong series included updates and changes in compilation and review reporting.
Bradley Tuschhoff, CPA, Cheryl Morris, CPA and Debbie Johns, staff accountant, also attended the Fall Tax Institute held recently in Cape Girardeau. The two-day course reviewed changes to federal tax laws that are a result of court cases and IRS rulings.
Bias among surgeons initiated into fellowship
Mason F. Bias, M.D., was among 1,442 initiates from around the world who became Fellows of the American College of Surgeons on Oct. 19 during ceremonies at the College's 89th annual Clinical Congress in Chicago. Bias practices at Kies Eye Center in Cape Girardeau.
Local chef, food-service director receive awards
The Missouri Department of Agriculture recently named Lisa Elfrink, food-service director for the Cape Girardeau school district, top winner in the AgriMissouri Food-service Excellence Award contest. Elfrink was recognized for her work with the School Food Service Task Force and for incorporating Missouri products in the school lunch menus.
In the AgriMissouri Chef Excellence Award contest, chef DeWayne Schaaf of Celebrations Restaurant received a bronze medal for his goats beard chevre and porcini latke.
