Real estate agent goes to Midwest-Japan meeting
Thomas M. Meyer, president of Thomas L. Meyer Realty Co., attended the 35th annual joint meeting of the Midwest U.S.-Japan and Japan-Midwest U.S. Associations held in Chicago. The meeting was attended by more than 400 representatives from the Midwest and Japan. The main theme was "new technologies," including discussions on many partnership opportunities emerging from Japanese and American companies and universities.
Meyer attended sessions on information and communication technology, transportation and logistics, life sciences, food production, manufacturing and services.
Meyer has a certified international real estate designation and works actively in promoting a global market.
Physical therapist joins Southeast hospital staff
Craig M. Brown has joined the staff of Southeast Missouri Hospital's Outpatient Rehabilitation Services, at 60 Doctors' Park.
Brown is experienced in outpatient orthopedic physical therapy and industrial rehabilitation and has worked with clients from local businesses and industries.
At Southeast Outpatient Rehabilitation Services, Brown will work with the WORKplus program.
Brown holds a master's degree in physical therapy from the University of Evansville in Evansville, Ind. He is a certified ergonomic assessment specialist.
Accountant attends course on fringe benefits
Certified public accountant David M. Plassman with the firm Schott and Van de Ven recently attended the Complete Guide to Fringe Benefits course. The course explored the tax advantages and potential pitfalls of providing fringe benefits to employees.
Employee benefits plans include cafeteria plans, medical reimbursement plans, medical savings accounts, disability income and dependent care, and automobile income inclusions for employees.
Payroll administrator gets national certification
Peggy Bender, payroll administrator for Robinson Construction Co. in Perryville, Mo., received fundamental payroll certification in October.
The FPC was introduced by the American Payroll Association in 2000 to better serve all levels of the payroll community.
The FPC exam consists of 150 questions that test the candidates in the areas of payroll fundamentals, fundamentals of payroll operations and paychecks, tax reporting and payroll accounting, and professional payroll skills and responsibilities. Receipt of the certification demonstrates that the candidate is highly skilled and professionally certified in the area of payroll.
