Cape native receives two teacher awards

Ginger Schwab, a Cape Girardeau native, received two awards this year while teaching at Goldsboro Elementary Magnet School in Sanford, Fla., including Teacher of the Year for her school and Teacher of the Year from the local Sanford Sam's Club.

Schwab is a Cape Girardeau Central High School graduate from the class of 1993 and a Southeast Missouri State University 1998 graduate.

Schwab is the daughter of Marilyn and John Schwab of Cape Girardeau.

Cape CPA elected chair of state accounting group

Gary G. Johnson, Ph.D., CPA, a Cape Girardeau resident, has been elected chair of the Missouri Society of Public Accountants, an organization of 8,000 certified public accountants in public practice, industry, government and education. He will serve a one-year term.

Johnson is a professor of accounting at Southeast Missouri State University.

He has been a member of the MSCPA since 1984 and has served on the Society's board of directors since 1999. He was the chair of its educational foundation and has been active on the finance committee and education-related committees. Currently, he serves on several society task forces.

The MSCPA is the largest professional association dedicated to advancing CPAs in Missouri. Established in 1909, the organization provides members with continuing education and governmental advocacy, while working to further the future of the accounting profession through student-focused initiatives.

Funeral home employee celebrates 25 years

Twenty-five years ago this month, Jeff Tutt began a career in funeral service at the Crain Funeral Home in Anna, Ill. During his senior year of high school, Tutt came into the funeral home on Saturdays and after school to assist the Crains with maintenance of their funeral home. After attending Shawnee Community College, Tutt moved to Chicago to attend Worsham College of Mortuary Science, where he graduated with honors in 1983.

Tutt has been employed continuously now for 25 years at funeral homes in Anna, Chicago and its suburbs, Massachusetts and for two years back in Anna at Crain Funeral Homes M/C Monuments and Crain Cemetery Services.

Cape native earns national certification

Aaron Baldwin, a Cape Girardeau native who graduated from Central High School in 1996, has recently passed the National Opticianry Competency Exam.

Baldwin lives in Kansas City, Mo., where he works for America's Best Contacts and Eyeglasses.

The NOCE is a job-related exam, which accurately measures technical knowledge and is administered twice a year. The exam is developed under the supervision of the Professional Examination Service.

Certification by the ABO is the only nationally recognized voluntary credential for ophthalmic dispensers. The designation ABOC earned by this individual should be recognized as a measure of professional ability and distinction.

Baldwin is the son of Joy and David Baldwin of Cape Girardeau.

Local beef breeders recognized for bulls

Paul Meier of Jackson owns five bulls listed in the 2003 Fall Sire Evaluation Report published by the American Angus Association, which has headquarters in St. Joseph, Mo. Issued in both the spring and the fall, the new report features the latest performance information available on 6,409 sires.

Mike Kasten of Millersville owns nine bulls listed in the report.
