UPS honors Cape Girardeau driver for 20 accident-free years
Earl Messmer, a package car driver for UPS, was recently recognized by the company for completing 20 years without an accident. Messmer works out of the facility at 3425 Willow Road in Scott City, and provides service in the rural Cape Girardeau area. Manager Merlin Pyrtle presented Messmer with the 20-year safe driving award. Messmer lives in Gordonville with his two children, Gary Messmer and Christina Kirkou.
Fisher appointed director of physician practice management
Southeast Missouri Hospital officials have named Don Fisher to the position of director of physician practice management. Fisher previously served as director of business development. Fisher will manage the day-to-day operations of physician practices. He also will work closely with hospital leadership on physician recruitment. Southeast currently employs more than 40 physicians and operates 11 clinic locations in the greater Cape Girardeau and Jackson area. A member of the Southeast staff since 2001, Fisher serves as president of the board of directors of the Missouri Medical Group Management Association.
SEMO university graduate Presson achieves honor
Lucas Presson was recently named a student associate member of the American College of Healthcare Executives. Presson graduated from Southeast Missouri Sate University with a bachelor of arts degree and is currently studying in the MBA program (health administration option) at Southeast.
Group awards engineering honor to 30-year employee
Melvin J. Albrecht has received the Engineering Honors Award from Babcock & Wilcox Power Generation Group Inc., an operating unit of The Babcock & Wilcox Co. Albrecht received the award at a ceremony Feb. 18 in Barberton, Ohio, in recognition of his three decades of contributions to the company, particularly in the area of thermohydraulics and in the development of advanced technologies. Albrecht earned a bachelor's and a master's degree in engineering mechanics and materials from Southern Illinois University. He began his career at the company in 1978 as a research engineer and went on to serve as a senior performance engineer. In 1984, he was named an advisory engineer.
Pendleton sales associate wins President's Star award
Debbie Schrock has won the 2008 Pendleton President's Star award for her performance as a sales associate at the retail store at 201 S. Mount Auburn Road, Suite D, in Cape Girardeau. For her efforts, Schrock received a $250 gift card, a Merino throw, a congratulatory letter from the company's president and is now a lifetime member of the Pendleton President's Club. Pendleton celebrated 100 years on Feb. 16.
Moyers joins National Guard as public affairs rep
The Missouri National Guard has hired former Southeast Missourian business reporter Scott Moyers as its new unit public affairs representative for the Cape Girardeau area. Moyers will be responsible for keeping the media informed of what's happening in National Guard units from Cape Girardeau to Festus. Moyers will also be writing articles for "Bear Facts," the National Guard's monthly magazine, and assisting unit commanders with media-related issues. Moyers will serve the National Guard units in Cape Girardeau, Jackson, Perryville, Farmington, De Soto and Festus. His office is at the 1140th Engineer Battalion in Cape Girardeau. Moyers is a civilian but served in the National Guard in its communications section in the late 1980s and 1990s.
